I was not excited to read this book, the synopsis never piqued my interest. However it wasn’t a bad read. It’s a slow moving novel, but Mbue does a good job of developing the characters. Each character is struggling to achieve their desired success, and none of them hit their mark. The men in this novel are able to redefine their dream and create a new version of success, the women however are not so lucky. A quick read and very engaging. Unfortunately the Lehman family is not like able at all. The book makes you root for all the Immigrants from Cameroon despite all the hurtles NYC/the US throws at them.
