This was my least-favorite Oprah pick ever! I'm sorry to say that I didn't enjoy much out of it except the fact that now I know that Cameroon is a country in Africa and where it's located. The writing in the book wasn't horrible, it's just that the plot was really disjointed. I liked the first quarter pretty well. But then it just got long and uninteresting to me. What a book! A well-written story with great characters and moving narration. Highly recommend.
This novel tells the story of an African immigrant family trying to survive in New York City during the Wall Street financial crisis of 2007. Jende Jonga lands a job as the chauffeur to a Lehman Brothers executive. His and his wife, Neni's, lives become entwined with the super wealthy. This is a fascinating, heartfelt exploration of the class divide and the American Dream. I highly recommend listening to it as the narrator's use of accents make the story come alive.
