Jack Hi everyone,

I have created a new group called Goodreads All Sorts and I'd love for people to join it or just even just give it a look. It's a group that discusses anything and everything. There will be monthly group reads, movies, and music. There is a folder for everything you could think of. I'd really like if people could spread the word because I'd love for the group to be a success. Here is the link to the group:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/9...

Thanks very much,
Jack :-)

message 7: by Sonja (new)

Sonja van der Merwe ok - i've read book 1 & 2 on your list and they were super awesome and hilarious!!! gone give no 3 a try now!

message 8: by Schell (new)

Schell ok. This must be fiction that is funny, because David Sedaris in everything and Augsten Burroughs , especially in "Dry" were hysterical.

message 9: by Ainaa (new)

Ainaa hey, can you suggest books in which there is one boy and two girls(best friends) type love triangle.

Amelia Nabanita wrote: "why is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen funny??!! i really dont get it..."

P&P is a social commentary about the time. I think once you are familiar with the story and you read it becomes funny. Everyone in the book is terrible and oblivious. Their mom is obsessed with marriage and doesn't even try to hide it, Mr Collins lacks all the social grace you'd expect a clergy to have, the most attractive person Elizabeth meets is a con-artist, and the most deplorable person turns out to be the good guy.

Austen makes fun of people she doesn't like. For example Mr. Collin's a man of the cloth who is mostly concerned with flattering people in better standing then him. He bows constantly, is terrible at conversation, and fawns over lady catherine every day. He is meant to be totally ridiculous, unlikeable, and funny.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) It surprised me to see that no one had added Bill Bryson's Tegenvoeters, een reis door Australië (In a Sunburned country / Down Under) yet. I read it recently and had such a good laugh :-)

Pride and prejudice is definitely funny when you read the remarks of Mr Bennett, for example, or when you take a look at the character of Mr Collins, and so on. And yes, of course it is an excellent example of its time but don't forget Jane Austen's pen could be very sharp at times (and was meant to be so)....

message 17: by Mary (last edited Jan 23, 2016 11:12AM) (new)

Mary Ellen Mark Giglio Mark's short story Spell Check is hillarious. J Richards, a critic, is a failed writer who gets his jollies by writing devastating reviews of other writers. He gets his comeupins when witches Sybil and Jillian take revenge and put a spell on his words. He continually talks in cliches and what he says comes true much to the chagrin of his colleagues. This book made me roar with laughter. You can find it on Smashwords or Amazon or he gives coupons for free short stories when you join his blog. randy i would like help in finding a funny or humorous book for my book club that would also lend itself to some discussion.

message 21: by Terrence (new)

Terrence When I need a good laugh, I go to the manga or anime for these:

Nichijou, 1 by Keiichi Arawi

Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Vol. 1 by Izumi Tsubaki

Lighthearted comedies with often off-the-wall humor or strong set up and punch lines. And the characters all get along relatively well without any drama.

Ginny Horn-Horn by ADT McLellan - one of those few books that you will go from the last page immediately back to the first page. Like The Sixth Sense, reading it a second time is like reading it for the first time again. It's a completely different story once all of the twists are revealed.
Beyond hilarious, too. On nearly every page.
