Elizabeth Sharpe works at her father’s bookshop, well really she runs it herself since her father hasn’t quite been the same since the loss of her mother. There is nothing in life she loves more than books and getting the right books into the hands of other readers. One day a rare thing happens when the Duke of Montrose arrives at the bookshop. While her family has served Dukes for centuries, a Duke has never actually entered the shop before, they preferred instead to have books delivered to their estates. Elizabeth’s father was supposed to have been assisting the Duke of Montrose and regularly bringing him books, but since he’s been slacking on his scheduled meetings with the Duke, Montrose shows up and requests Elizabeth’s assistance from now on.
While Montrose has a bad reputation and is known to be very blunt and gruff, somehow Elizabeth isn’t afraid of him. They become friends of sorts when they discover their mutual love for books and reading. They even form their own little “book club for two” and discuss the novels she recommends him (Pride and Prejudice being one of them). Which eventually leads to them discovering they like more of one another besides their book choices. This one was short and sweet! I liked seeing Montrose’s gruff, cold shell start to thaw for Elizabeth. She’s definitely the exception to his dislike of other people. He was a lonely sole before Elizabeth came into his life and I liked seeing them both get their HEA together.

Thanks so much to the author for the copy, A Marquess of Roses is a historical romance by a debut author who reached out to me to read an early copy. Thanks so much to the author for the copy, all thoughts in this review are my own. First I’ll share a quick synopsis and then I’ll share my thoughts.
The Duke of Kentwell and has wife Elizabeth lived an idyllic and charmed life. They welcomed their only child, a daughter Charlotte, and the Duke even named her the heir to his fortune and any future son she bore heir to the dukedom. But when their perfect world fell apart after the death of Elizabeth, the Duke closed off his home, his life, and his young daughter Charlotte from society for the next 12 years. The story kicks off after 12 years of silence, with invitations being sent out for Charlotte’s debut into society at the age of 20. Adam Langdon, the Marquess of Sunderland and heir to the Duke of Portsmouth, is one of the many guests in attendance at Charlotte’s debut. His mother was close friends with Charlotte’s late mother and wants Adam to court Charlotte for the season and eventually propose. Adam’s first meeting with Charlotte doesn’t go quite as his mother planned…he calls her a shrew but later ends up kissing her in the garden.
I really thought the premise of this story was interesting but the read ended up being just okay for me. I wanted more of a connection between Charlotte and Adam, as their relationship seemed based on lust and I just didn’t see what else they had connecting them. Charlotte meets a group of 3 self-proclaimed wallflowers at her debut ball and becomes immediate friends with them, she tells them they’ll be referred to as bluestockings from now on instead. I felt like the friendships relationships were surface level and I honestly just wanted more from all the relationships in the book. The main plot of the story is centered around an ex-mistress/OW drama and I just didn’t enjoy that aspect of the story. Time moves very fast in this and I did find myself wanting more dialogue to try and form those believable connections in the relationships. That said, while it didn’t work quite right for me, I do get that it was the author’s first book and I do think there are readers who would enjoy this quick read.

The Rivals of Casper Road is part of the Garnet Run series, an adorable small town setting in Wyoming. This is a mm romance where a Halloween decorating contest leads to a prank war and then leads to love!
Bram moved into a home on Casper Road about six months ago and is excited to learn about his new neighborhood and meet new friends. He ends up learning about the annual Halloween decorating contest that the neighborhood puts on and he’s excited to take part in it too and be apart of the new community. At the same time, he’s introduced to Zachary, an architect and six-time champion of the Halloween decorating contest who is ready to go for that seventh win this year!
The autumnal season vibes were so fun! I love a good cozy fall read and this definitely gave fall vibes. Bram and Zachary are new neighbors who have a rivalry thing going on for a bit, but in a fun way with their prank war. The romance was sweet, we still get some spice, and the small town neighborhood setting was cute. I enjoyed the previous book in the series a little more, but this was a fun addition as well and fun seeing other characters again! Audiobooks are on hoopla for the whole series....more
Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant is a cozy mystery part of the Beacon Bakeshop Mystery series! This was a perfectly, cute, and cozy fall setting with appMurder at the Pumpkin Pageant is a cozy mystery part of the Beacon Bakeshop Mystery series! This was a perfectly, cute, and cozy fall setting with apple cider donuts, a haunted lighthouse, and a murder mystery set in Beacon Harbor, Michigan.
Lindsey purchased a lighthouse and turned it into the bakeshop and home of her dreams, who cares if it’s slightly haunted by a resident ghost. For Halloween, her influencer and podcaster best friend ends up inviting a professional ghost hunting investigation crew to come join her for a filming. But things go wildly off-course when they find a murdered body on the grounds instead of the ghost they were expecting! Now Lindsey and all the small town residents help to find out why and who did the murdering.
This was a quick, easy listen and I was super into this setting and story! I liked the characters (especially her boyfriend Rory and dog Wellington) and setting more than the reveal of the murderer, but all in all, this was a fun one and perfectly fall-themed!...more

This is a college sports romance where an accidental pregnancy leads to more!
Faye first meets Rush Ramsey during a camping trip, her tire is flat and he ends up helping her out and offering her a place to camp out at his family’s property. They end up chatting all night and realize they both go to Treasure State and both need to ditch their respective partners. They go their separate ways and a month later run into one another again at a bar where the night leads to more this time! It’s after this hookup that she realizes she’s pregnant and they figure out where to go from there!
It was sweet how he and his parents were all-in. Faye really only ever had her younger sister who she takes care of and her relationship with their mother is estranged and complicated. Rush moves Faye in with him and I liked seeing them get to know one another while she’s pregnant. They both are there for one another and super sweet together. Solid addition to the series and the audiobook in particular was so good (Jason Clarke and Vanessa Edwin are always a hit)!...more

First off, this cover is such a stunner, I’ve been obsessed with it since it was revealed. Secondly, Juliette Cross is an auto-read author for me, whether it’s her paranormal, her small town, or fantasy…I’m picking up everything she writes.
We follow light and dark fae here and a prophecy quest. Una is a princess of light fae and is being held prisoner in a cell when the story starts. Goll is a wraith prince whose father, the demon king, has him held captive in a cage because of an oracle’s premonition. When Goll sees Una being offered up, he breaks free and saves them both. Years later they meet again. Their kingdoms are at war and she’s abducted to force her father to surrender. A bargain of sorts is struck between Goll and Una, they’ll marry and she’ll produce an heir to end the war and save her people.
I had really high expectations for this read, I think it is a good start to a new series. The first half did take me a while to get into it, but the middle to second half did grab my attention more once the quest begun. This world, along with the fantasy creatures who live in it, seems very big and I am excited to see more of that explored as the series progresses. The couple goes quickly from strangers/enemies to all-in and I wasn’t as sold as they were with one another. I wanted a little bit more there between them. I did really love Una’s character, but Goll I didn’t feel like I got enough from. I’m definitely picky with fantasy reads and while not a favorite for me of the books I’ve read from this author, I think this was solid and I am curious to see where this series will go. I could see the influences for this world and characters and I think a lot of readers will enjoy this one!

Zara finds out at the beginning of the story that her fiancé is cheating on her, and has been for years! She needs to get her mind off things and takes a little trip where she meets Gabriel working at a bar. It was supposed to be just a one night hookup but it turns into so much more!
This was a lot of fun, very spicy, very family centric for the characters, I love how many side characters make appearances in here — so many of this author’s series connect so it’s so much fun seeing all the generations of characters! He’s a single dad and I loved how all-in he is with her! The audios for this series has just been an easy, bingeable time.

This iI saw this book alllll over my IG feed so I decided to give it a read since it was on KU! And I’m so glad I did, because Cash was a lot of fun. This is an opposites attract (cowboy x city girl), small town, western romance.
Mollie Luck comes to the small town her estranged father lived in for the reading of his will. She is an up-and-coming cowboy boot designer who was raised by her mom in Dallas and always heard the worst things about cowboys and them choosing their ranch over love and family. She plans on staying in town long enough to hear the reading of the will and sell Lucky Ranch once it’s all in her name. She ends up meeting Cash Rivers, his family has owned the ranch next to her family’s property for six generations but he’s been working as the foreman on her father’s ranch for the past decade. They butt heads immediately, he assumes the worst about her being a city girl in the small, country town and doesn’t think the best things about her being absent from her father’s life—a man he saw as a mentor to himself. He also was told the ranch (and money) would be left to him, so it’s a shock when Mollie gets the ranch instead! It does come with a stipulation though, she has to live on the ranch for a full year and actively participate in the day-to-day operations of the cattle ranch to access the funds!
This was a fun one. If you want an opposites attract romance with a western, cowboy setting, this definitely hits! I really liked Cash, he calls her ‘City Girl’ and ‘honey’ and has had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders with the debt his parents left him with, raising his 4 younger brothers, and trying to earn money to keep their own family ranch in their hands. It was nice seeing him happy with Mollie. We also get introduced to side characters too which will be fun to see them get books in the series. ...more

Sooo they end up faking (accidentally, but not really faking) being together to think of someone other than the ones they actually want to be with. And the feelings get real, and complicated, and messy.
This one sounded so good and I think it has potential for sure. I just didn’t like how much back and forth there was with all the complicated, messiness of it all. She doesn’t tell him who she’s secretly into for the longest time which of course will lead to drama. Plus the drama between the hero and his brother. It just all dragged on for a bit too long and I wanted these characters to get some help rather than get together by the end. I believe it’s the author’s debut, so like I said the writing has potential for sure, this particular story just didn’t resonate with me. The cover is great!...more

Murphy returns back to her hometown after living in the city for 9 years. She was an aspiring singer in L.A. but now she’s returning back to Rosewood with broken dreams. On her first day back, her car breaks down and Wes shows up to help change her tire. They both feel a little something there but go their separate ways and she ends up running into him again when she rolls on to her family’s vineyard. She finds out he’s the newly hired chef for the vineyard’s restaurant she’s there to help her brother open.
This has a lot of family dynamics with Murphy, her moody brother, and their father. Wes has some reasons for pushing her away as well, even though he’s interested. I really enjoyed the writing of this one, I haven’t read either author before but I liked this setting and the characters. We got some emotional elements to it as well which was nice. I’d definitely read more in this series! This is available on Kindle Unlimited with the read and listen feature.

Haley left Citrus Cove, Texas behind after graduating high school and she swore to never return. She’s now a successful travel writer who gets to live out her dream of always traveling and writing travel articles for a well-known international magazine. But now she’s returning back to the small town after witnessing a murder in her apartment building and becoming a possible next target for the killer.
We see in the prologue how life was rough for Haley and her sister Sarah growing up, their dad left and their mother died so the girls were raised by their grandmother. Haley’s highschool bully was Cameron Harlow and we see just how cruel he was to her in the prologue. But now it’s 12 years later and Cam is wanting to make amends and apologize for the awful ways he treated her in the past!
I was obsessed with Cameron and Haley together. He was absolutely a bully to her growing up but I loved how much he realizes and acknowledges how awful he was and how much he wants to make amends over it all. His family owns a local farm and vineyard and he opened up a winery to go along with it, Haley starts working there while she’s in town so we get lots of close proximity! The suspense elements were also done really well and added a lot to the story and plot! I just loved everything about this read and devoured it in a day! All the small town fun: a family oak tree, tinted windows, tailgates, picnics! So excited with the next books to come in this series for characters we met, the next one is a single mom MMF!

I don’t know, this just wasn’t it. It started off interesting, the premise is the heroine finds out dark secrets about her past and life after the funeral of her adopted mother. From there her life takes a turn! The writing style wasn’t for me, lots of telling instead of showing, things move too quickly/are glossed over for what is actually happening in the heroine’s life. The steamy scenes felt like other spicy times, I skimmed past those scenes. The romance and plot just didn’t jive together very well, they felt very separate. This is a small town, romantic suspense set in Kentucky; his family is a prestigious bourbon family who still run their business together (3 brothers and their grandfather). She’s on the run and in hiding through the witness protection program and ends up staying at his family’s property.
The prologue drops you right in the story of Grant Foxx, we then cut to five years later and his career and life have made changes. Laney is dropped at Foxx Bourbon in the middle of the night and ends up meeting all the Foxx brothers, but it’s Grant who really grabs her attention…and she his attention.
“Can I be the reason you stay?”

I loved the bourbon history and fun they have with it, his whole family and the side characters we meet already (so ready for their books to come), loved his relationship with his cute nieces and how she bonds with them too, love Julep his dog, Hadley had me laughing with her teases of Ace, Griz and his ladies, the Romancing the Stone nods! This was my first read from Kate Quinn and I was so impressed with her storytelling and writing. This is a historical fiction that takes place in 1950s, McCarthy era, Washington DC at a woman’s boardinghouse and their lives and stories! We also have a good mystery happening as well right from the start of the story with a murder!
“If these walls could talk. Well, they may not be talking, but they are certainly listening. And watching.”
It was so easy to get immersed in the story right from the start, I loved that we got POV from the actual house (one of my favorite things in books), and POVs of soo many characters throughout the story. The writing was so well done that I immediately could picture the characters and imagine each of the settings they were in. They all felt so different and unique so it was easy to tell them all apart, even with so many POVs in the story. The audiobook narrator did an amazing job with each character! I liked how there was recipes woven throughout the chapters too, as the ladies of the boardinghouse formed their own kind of supper club where they’d meet and chat and share their lives and time together. My favorite POVs to follow/read were Nora, Pete, the House, Fliss, and Bea! The latter half of the story at parts didn’t keep my interest as much, but overall such a solid read!
