"I realise that this is what it means to be lovers: using the same words to speak of the same things though one has never heard the other use them; these random similarities, this remarkable intimacy."
✧.* If you haven't read any Philippe Besson, you must. His writing is unbearably beautiful, it hurts. I practically have every other line highlighted in my copy.
"I want to experience only the moment, not the looming certainty that I will lose that moment, not the certain awareness that, ultimately, this moment must slip from present to past, only the joy of the moment and the graze of memory."

“The strongest weapon a woman has at her disposal is that she is often underestimated,”
✧.* The ending is honestly one of the best I have ever read, literally gives me goosebumps. I'm way too invested in these characters.
“I’m going to ask again. Who did this to you?”
✧.* How could I not fall in love with them though when they say stuff like that ....

✧.* This is book is verytropey but honestly it knows it and it does it well.
✧.* This is like a mix of the hunger games, red queen and The serpent and the wings of night, all of which I loved so Powerless was quite honestly perfect for me and I hope I continue to love the series....more

“But what they don’t know is this: As long as you are alive, it is never too late to be found.”
ੈ✩‧₊˚ I love books about sisters! Familial relationships are such an underrated topic for a book to be centred around.
I adored reading from all the sisters perspectives because they were all so unique. Unlike Cleopatra and Frankenstein by this author, these characters were likeable. Flawed? Yes. But likeable? Absolutely.
"They were not four, and they never would be again, but they were starting to find the symmetry in three."
ੈ✩‧₊˚ One thing I will say, which was an issue for me with Cleopatra and Frankenstein too, the authenticity of these characters is lost on me because you mean to tell me you have 3 sisters who do 3 different careers (boxer, model, lawyer) and are all top of their game... oh and then one of them becomes a singer.... Totally unbelievable but hey, it is fiction so it is what it is. But sometimes I can't help but roll my eyes.

I enjoyed this book and I like Coco Mellors' writing but at times I get the feeling it is pretty commercialised (which sounds weird) but in the sense that she almost knows it is going to be one for the titktok girlies etc. Its fine but sometimes the book feels like it is trying too hard to be what it wants to be rather than just being what it actually is....more

I always struggle with reviewing classics because I think what can I possibly say that hasn't already been said before. And what I will say is that although I know I'm not supposed to like Scarlett, I actually kind of loved her. She is flawed and callous at times but she is also determined and self interested and incredible to read about. ...more

“Do not mistake this kindness. I simply want to be the one who breaks you.”
This books is the reason why I am so reserved with my 5 stars. There are so few books that are as exquisite and as perfect as this. And that is what this is, perfection. (I have even created a new shelf just for it) . The invisible life of Addie la rue is one of those books that comes around every 5 - 10 years or so, it is so memorable so intricately crafted and ultimately just an experience to read.
This book although isn't real, of course, feels so real to me. Because who can't relate to the girl who just wanted to live and the boy who wanted to feel loved. I adore Addie and Henry and I cling to every page that Luc makes an appearance too. He is complex and curious and I adored reading about Luc's and Addie's relationship over the book.
The foreshadowing in this is gorgeous, the journey it takes you on is gorgeous. Re-reading this book has just solidified for me that it is an all time favourite.
“Pain can be beautiful. It can transform. It can create.”
1st Read March 2021:
"I didn't want to live forever. I just wanted to live."
A timeless, cleverly woven fantastical story that parallels the innate desire for everlasting time and the troubles that come with it.
"But a life without art, without wonder, without beautiful things - she would go mad."
I loved this far more than I thought I was going to. I adored Vicious and Vengeful but couldn't really get into the darker shades of magic books. So I had no idea where this book would fall but I just fell in love with it and I know it will be one of those books that often fills my thoughts long after I have finished reading it....more
