i thought the rue and amaya were a super cute pairing, very opposites attract. all the little details made this feel extra cozy. plus it's in a regency-esque setting which has very much been the vibe for me, so i'll prob be checking out more of this author's books....more

this was deeper and more emotional than valerin, as it deals with parental loss and grief.
the dragon lore in it was exceptionally intriguing and well-crafted in such a short read. the prose was lavish as ever which only added to the arthurian style.
definitely going to be continuing this series....more

this was so adorable! witchy cottagecore sapphic stardew with all the coziness <3
the chemistry between margot and yael was present from the start, and i felt like the conflict was strong enough to give the story drive but without being overwhelming and ruining the cozy vibes. the potion / magic making was really fun and creative and the descriptions of the gardens and various flowers felt so whimsical.
i like how the resolution came to pass and i'm definitely sensing the next book to be about two side characters i was very intrigued by ...more

this was such a wonderful middle-grade fantasy adventure about family, grief, love, and magic. i enjoyed seeing some classic fairy tale stories not only with a new twist but also integrated with jewish folklore, mysticism, and biblical stories.
Here is an uncomfortable truth: Evil is not often a dark flower growing at the edge of the universe; it is not a cloud that settles over countries like a suffocating cloak. Evil is a choice. If it is chosen again and again, the person who does the choosing can reliably be called a monster.
i enjoyed this story so much. it had me tearing up at points, but there was also such a fun narrator-to-reader connection with some 4th wall breaking that it really felt just like having a childhood story read to you. i also loved the illustrations throughout, it really helped bring this vivid world to life!
this is going to be an instant classic for many families in the years to come.
"To bends in the rainbow and the fifth point of a six-pointed star. To kingdoms adults lose and children take back and countries that can only be found without a map. To all kinds of extraordinary places."

a fast-paced, halloween action fever dream. it's always a good time coming back to kresley cole's world of Lore. this might be too deep into the world/story for new readers despite this being a standalone novella, but the devoted IAD fan will probably have a good time w this one. exciting fight scenes, quippy humor, and sexy romance. the spoopy vibes are peak as well w the halloween setting and various horror film character cameos....more

This is a game, he reminded himself, his chest tight. It means nothing. But if that were true, why did he feel like he was walking straight off a cliff, hoping he wouldn’t fall?
This is a game, she told herself, nuzzling her face into his palm. It’s only pretend. It’s how she justified dragging her fingers through his hair and pulling his mouth down to hers.
OOOOOOOH THIS WAS DELICIOUS.
serpent and dove meets mr. & mrs. smith. so much cat and mouse. gaslamp setting. blood magic. a love triangle.
i loved kristen ciccarelli's idea not only to use the period blood magic, but specifically as rune's response to witch hunters' main method of identifying witches - by their scars, which they take and make with pride in their magic practice.
rune is clever, determined, and daring. gideon is an excellent match, with a haunting past that renders his character more complex and sympathetic. i was kept guessing at who might best who, which was riveting and stressful, in the best way.
where serpent & dove failed for me as a "enemies to lovers", this doesn't pull punches and excels in that respect with much better execution. this was elusive, mysterious, intriguing, fun, and it was fun to piece together the puzzle as i read. i'm excited what will come with the next book.
Gideon was her perfect rival; a deadly enemy to outwit. Without him, Rune could only be half of her full potential. It was why, deep down, she wanted him to come for her.
