First- and remind yourself as you read The Inheritance by Nora Roberts, that this is part one of a series. Remind you sled! Twisty plot, creative, magic and a haunted mansion with multiple ghosts! Highly recommend! Nora Roberts has created a new series, The Lost Bride Trilogy. Inheritance is the first in the series and captures my interest right away. I really love the intensity of the mystery where we see past and present lead toward Sonya claiming her inheritance in Maine. I am actually planning on being in Maine this summer, so the setting and location also peaked my interest. Roberts shows the reader the beauty and serenity found in a peaceful area while she builds the tension of a confrontation between the killer and Sonya to come.
Sonya and Trey have good chemistry. I like that much of the novel is about Sonya figuring out what is right for her. The ghosts brings in a bit of supernatural, which I feel Roberts handled perfectly. With just the right note of disbelief and suspense.
Overall, well written and I will definitely be reading the rest of the series!...more
The Villa is quite the suspense novel, interweaving the infamous past events at the villa with the present time lives of Emily and her friend, Chess. The Villa is quite the suspense novel, interweaving the infamous past events at the villa with the present time lives of Emily and her friend, Chess. The story from the 1970's really had me intrigued and it was interesting to see the plot develop and unravel to reveal the parallels with the present time plot line. I enjoyed reading The Villa, it is quite the read so I made sure to read it when I had a long weekend to dive into the book. The stepsisters from the 1970's plotline had so many layers to their relationship. That seemed to set the pace and story for the more modern relationship between the best friends. Overall, a good read! Definitely a bit gothic!...more
