This is my first book by Dave Horowitz, so I just found out that this is the boy version of Twenty-six Princesses. I loved TWENTY-SIX PIRATES!! First, it is hilarious. Second, it has action, heart, "gross" little boy moments (which are a big hit with little boys), AND it rhymes. I love rhyming books! :) I teach first grade dual, so I like finding books with short sentences or phrases that say a lot. I will definitely use this book in my classroom and will be collecting the rest of Dave Horowitz books! I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs!! :>...more

It's a good story to use in the classroom around Mother's Day or to go over character traits. I liked the fact that the little girl, whom her mom calls Little Mouse, compares herself to different animals to describe her personality. I liked the illustrations and that adorable little mouse stole my heart :) My favorite part was the ending because she cuddles with her mom and we see a precious picture of the mouse! Fish always comes back with a story for Snail, but today Fish wants to "show" Snail what he's seen. They have a teensy fight and Fish leaves. Will Snail venture into the world that has the ocean, pirates and adventures? You betcha!! Everything is right in their world and they make up. The illustrations are simply sensational, you can literally see the emotions on the faces of Fish and Snail! So cute!! I love the colors used in the book. Deborah Freedman is a new author for me and I am hooked!! I will collect all her books and eagerly await more. I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs! :>...more

The unique part of the book? The setting. Usually you have the setting be where the "human" lives. I really liked seeing Flora learning to dance where the flamingo resides. Loved it! :) I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs! :>...more

It is a new book for 2013 and it is nearly wordless. It is about a baby bear and his friends going on some adventures that involve a red hat. The only words you see in the book are sounds that are made by the animals or the action in the story. It is a great addition to any library-personal, classroom, or school library. I will be adding this to my personal Read Alouds for my classroom! I adored the illustrations too! :) I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs! :>...more

I teach 1st grade bilingual, so the type of books that cover colors and animals in simple and innovative words and illustrations are the ABSOLUTE BEST!! This new author, Jesse Klausmeier, is very talented and builds anticipation for the next "little" book without losing the simplicity of the message - "Open not just one little book, but many!" The illustrations are absolutely adorable! The construction of the book and the "little books" therein are just genius!! I highly recommend this book for K-2nd, especially the bilingual students picking up the English language! I give this "little book" with the "BIG message" 5 out of 5 YUPIS!! :)...more

It is very different from the classic story and actually delves into the life of Rumpelstiltskin or "Rump." It is a magical book about meaningful names, destiny, discovery, poverty, loss, greed, adventure, problem solving, undying friendship, redemption, and true freedom. I loved all the potty jokes, they were irresistible, and they brought levity to a heartfelt story. If you haven't been able to figure it out yet, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book! :) It is a must-read!! Laura Golden is so talented and I can't wait for more of her books! This book is set during the Great Depression. I love historical fiction, so I really enjoyed the history behind the novel. Lizzie Hawkins and her mother are abandoned by Lizzie's father after he loses his job. Lizzie and her mom are basically left with hardly any income coming into the household. Her mother disconnects and it seems like Lizzie is left to pick up the pieces and save the family. With bullying, mortgage payments, and friendship problems, it seems that Lizzie has more than she can handle. The light at the end of the tunnel? Her best friend Ben, help from some understanding adults, and her strength and faith will guide Lizzie to some reasonable solutions to her problems. On a personal note, I identified so much with this novel because I have lived through very trying times and poverty as a child. I could literally feel Lizzie's desperation throughout the story. I don't want to give too much away, so I will not add any more to this review. I just want to say that I highly recommend you read it!! I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs! :>...more
