No... but it has cats and Star Trek: TNG, and I love these two things a lot so it made me massively happy :) In the end, it's a frivolous book that collects a bunch of Star Trek scenes, but replaces the characters with cats. Maybe you'll find secret joy in it as well. Maybe you will wonder why someone wasted paper and ink on this project. Now excuse me, I need to go squee over Captain Picard as a spinx cat!...more

Yes :) Half the fun of this volume is in the excellent illustrations showcasing tiny humans acting like cats. However, the story is oddly compelling. Our protagonist is an underachiever who hates his job, can barely take care of himself, and is lacking in any decent relationships. When he loses his man due to carelessly, this inspires a great change in him as he tries to take control of his life and contribute meaningfully to the world. I was oddly touched by these strange characters, and I hope we'll see more of them!...more

All of Wertz's humour is on full display and quite enjoyable. However, I appreciate how much she dug into her problems more in other books such as The Infinite Wait. Drinking at the Movies is in conversation with her other work, but this part of the narrative is one I am less drawn to. Perhaps this is partially because this was originally a book published by a mainstream publisher? It feels a lot safer than her other books. In any case, if you're a fan, you will undoubtedly enjoy Drinking at the Movies, and it fills some of the blanks in left uncovered by Museum of Mistakes and The Infinite Wait. It makes for a good, perhaps less weighty introduction to an excellent comic artist!...more

In The Infinite Wait, Wertz takes readers on a journey through her life in the form of three stories. One relives her working career, another her experiences with lupus, and the last is a love letter to libraries. Her humour and willingness to showcase her mistakes make this book a delightful, but also affecting read. ...more

This Holiday Special tells the story of what would happen of our favourite trio did not become friends at the start of school. The answer is there would still be shenanigans :) I love seeing the original artist on this one, and enjoyed the silly, zany non-canon adventure. I'm going to pretend the second story didn't exist as it was weird and inexplicable (Esther and a literal fishman? WTF). ...more
