Of course, reading a narrative of an insane person can be a little unreliable, and sometimes we have to just take some of the things she talks about on faith, but it certainly makes for an interesting story (albeit a bit haphazard)
Harrow is now on the Emperors planet with, of all people, Ianthe the third. She would have preferred ANY of the other contestants, but apparently they are all that survived (as far as she knows). There are three remaining lyctors who are responsible for their 'training', but since at least one of them is actively trying to kill her, Harrow has to take figuring out the mysteries of Lyctorhood into her own hands. Can they protect the Emperor? and more importantly, Should they? and what about this ghost following Harrow around? and why does she think Octus was actually her cavalier?
so, while I liked this ok, I think there were a few problems that kept me from fully enjoying it.

The college Janet attends seemed very familiar to me, and I later realizied that is whs a small college in my home state that Id visited a few times, but it has nothing whaysoever to do with the mythology of the story, so it seemed distracting how there was SO much exposition about the layout of the school....for no reason really. The only building that is part of the Tam Lin mythology would be Carter Hall, filling in for the Carterhaugh of the story.
There is also SO much of the 'college experience' going on here...yeah, its set at a college, but there is so much exposition about registration and RA's and class assignments that I think I can probably write out Janet's class load from all four years just based on the amount of words that went into that.
The Tam Lin story IS there, its just buried in a lot of daily college tasks....a little more editing would have made this great!...more

This sounds really crazy, I know, but the fact that I know it sounds crazy shows how sane I am....more
