It has of course the Scottish setting with the small town coming up to Christmas. Emilia's friends have her involved in all the preparations. She is meant to be on holiday, but there always seem to be times where she is needed. Abigail and Tommy her brother are around a good bit and that's an added pleasure (for me the reader). There seems to be a bit of romance going on for Abigail but Em's not sure she is aware of it.
Of course a murder happens and it is an interesting one. Emilia is involved as well as being the doctor she is the local coroner. The gruesome things she has to do, but she seems quite at home with it. And she has Abigail to help. It was all very mystifying and when an outside detective turns up there seems to have been something going on between Ewan and herself way back. And at the moment she arrives she is pointing the finger at Ewan. Well Emilia is having none of that.
I felt riveted the whole time and in fact had to really get reading this right through to the end. Eventually as it became clearer who the murderer is (thanks to Em's putting it all together) I was sad it was the way it was.
An excellent addition to the series and I am really looking forward to another in this series. There is still lots more that can happen. Hmm I think Ewan seems to think so ...more

But of course there were mysteries to clear up, and a few murders as well. There is missing money from a bank robbery that a number of crooks seem to be after, and as well a diary that some people wanted. Even though it belonged to the library.
All the usual characters were part of the scene and especially of course Smokey Joe. The plot moved along with action all the time and Carrie was right in the thick of it.This time Dylan was a large part of the action as well.
And going alongside all the action were wedding plans, buying a home and actually getting married.
I was sad to read in the author's note that this #8 is the final in the series. It has been a favorite series and I couldn't believe it was ending. I want more! ...more

We meet Nina in the prologue, we see things and when she disappears we know enough to be worried for her.
We see her family - distraught and out of their minds. We see Simon and his family and well, for a start they see money and power as the way to proceed.
We see the police following up on small leads, and we see the online trolls that Rory - Simon's father has set in place to blacken Nina and her family. That part I found chilling and oh so real. We see it every day over smaller matters than possible crime.
Have You Seen Nina? was a riveting and disturbing read. Would justice be served? I didn't see what was coming and that was even more disturbing. It wasn't something I could rest with or delight in. Messy! ...more

Vera has just returned home because something went down at her last job and somebody's head had to roll and that was Vera.
At home we meet her sister Eve and much younger sister Luna. The sisters get on quite well together, but as the story reveals itself - all I can say is wow! All the secrets! The new sherrif in town Bent is a flame of Vera from the past, so there is a little romantic interest there that you can see will develop further at some point.
The whole mystery - dead bodies - around some cold cases is in my mind, bizarre. It's all quite complex and it seems that anyone could have been responsible, and as its all revealed, I wondered what would come out into the light and what would or could remain still hidden deep.
Vera works kind of with Bent and eventually most of it all comes out, and eventually she has to decide where her life is going next. ...more

This time they are involved in hunting down the killer of Ellen Fisher. To me it seemed Bernie and Libby spend a considerable amount of their time on the sleuthing and this time round any way they are well paid for it.
Their Dad is a retired policeman and has the ability to gather in for them information from some friends that seem to provide good leads. There is quite a bit of cat and mouse chasing about, a past heist that comes into play, and some questions about who really is Ellen Fisher.
I enjoyed the story, I was suspicious of the killer from the beginning, I felt there were a few tip offs and the tone of the book towards a certain group sort of helped. However the way it would all roll out was still unknown and I enjoyed the ride. ...more

Previously she was an assistant District Attorney.
When Ray Johnson hires Jack to defend him in a cold case, Finley soon finds herself in all kinds of interesting situations. The kind of situations that keep a reader reading late into the night!
There are so many pieces to this evolving story. Ray's brother Ian is missing, Lucy's mother has dropped off the face of the earth. Then Finley finds out that others near and dear to her are involved and holding on to secrets.
Finley is thorough and the more people she interviews, the more questions she asks, the tangled webb eventually begins to untangle in very surprising ways. Danger lurks around many corners for Finley but she courageously continues on until all is revealed. So many surprises.
I very much enjoyed this story and really hope to hear more about Finley as she moves on in her life and seeks to become the next District Attorney. ...more
