I loveAnnoyed really that instead of reading something different, I have decided to delve right into the next chapter of the series which is Monsoon. I love Wilbur Smith books but his Courtney Series is just fantastic. Normally I would vary my reading and read something completely different after a book like this but when I read the blurb of Monsoon I was hooked. This is a great trilogy within the Courtney series and I enjoyed it. Historical fiction at its finest. I can’t recommend it enough. I can’t even remember what got me into reading Wilbur Smith but I’m not sorry. He was doing this long before the likes of Ken Follett and others ...more

Two, I’m not easily impressed by giving 5 star ratings to most books I read but this book deserves it also. It is a great finish to the Millennium trilogy, although a bit lengthy. That’s not a bad thing. I’ve read longer books. I didn’t like the movie based on book one but so what? What is about Nordic writers. I have read others even though they are different genres. From Jo Nesbo, Stieg Larsson, Frederick Backman and I have recently discovered Karl Ove Knausgaard. I seem to be drawn to them. While I read a lot of Stephen King and Wilbur Smith, every now and then I need to indulge in a bit of Nordic fiction regardless of whether it’s comedy, crime thrillers etc. Getting back to the Millennium trilogy it is a fascinating and fitting way to end the story. ...more

Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Something tells me that this is the final act in the Beartown story. This has to be the best he's written, even topping A Man Called Ove. What is about Nordic psyche? If I want to read some brilliant crime books I'll read Jo Nesbo, dark fiction I'll read Stieg Larsson and something funny then it has to be Frederick Backman. Such a great writer and so funny. ...more

Although this is his first book, the one that propelled him in the big time,it's not the first I've read by him. It's a work of fiction but presidents have been impeached before, although none have been convicted for murder let alone executed for it. There's a fine line between fiction and non-fiction that we should never cross. Saying that it doesn't stop it from being a good story...more
