This was beautifully written and brilliantly narrated. I am absolutely grabbing another book by this author and exploring more into this sub-genre. ...more

This was a kind of comedy of errors when a frustrated single mom, drowning in debt and struggling to finish writing her latest novel inadvertently becomes a hired assassin when someone misconstrues an overheard conversation between her and her agent. The audio narration was perfection. The story was fast paced and engaging with cleverly written dialog and an infinitely likable main character. I can't wait to read more in this series. Highly recommend. ...more

The premise sounded so fascinating - a psychology professor gathers a group of young psychopaths to participate in a study while attending college at Adams in DC. And then one of them is found murdered. And then another. Sounds good, right? Plus, it was being narrated by Brittany Pressley so I already knew the narration would be on point. What I was unprepared for was how much I was going to LOVE the MC - Chloe. She is part of the psychopath study, but really, she just agreed to be part of it so that she could gain entry to the college where the guy who wronged her years ago attends because she plans to stalk and kill him. Only problem is, someone is stalking and trying to kill her. This doesn't scare her though, it simply annoys the fuck out of her that someone keeps distracting her from her own murderous plans. Chloe is smart, flawed, tough, girly, promiscuous, sarcastic, and violent - everything I need in a thriller heroine. An enthusiastic 5 Stars + a spot on my Best of 2021 list AND a spot on my All Time Favorite Reads list. I'll be watching out for this author....more

I wasn't even 1/4 into the audiobook when I knew this would be a 5 star read. I love when I can immediately connect with the story and the characters. And then the incredible narration by Adam Lazarre-White made it that much better. I wouldn't recommend this for someone who does not like books with blood and violence but I would absolutely recommend it to everyone else. ...more

Pressley is one of those narrator that can bring life to even mediocre books. Her narration and the evocative writing by Karen Tucker painted an authentic picture of the reality of addiction. This was a quietly powerful story of friendship and codependency and the desperate struggle to pull themselves out of that downward spiral. I don't know that I can say I liked it, but I certainly felt it and recognized many people I love in these pages. Highly recommend. ...more

Some parts felt a little preachy and contrived BUT that did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the story. The connection between the two main characters was so heartwarming. It also had a little bit of a Forrest Gump feel to it in the things and people Raymond encountered while on his quest to find Luis Velez. Halfway through this audiobook - I went to Amazon and purchased the physical book for my 18 year old son because Raymond reminded me so much of him in the way that he has an easier time connecting with adults, he's so very thoughtful and considerate, and he has an interest in social justice. I hope he enjoys this as much as I did. I'll definitely be reading more by this author. ...more

However, I didn't always enjoy the writing style and it kind of jarred me out of the story sometimes. Not enough to put it down though. I'm never one to figure out the mystery early so I enjoyed the tension build waiting to find all the answers and the author certainly teased those out. An overall good read. I'd recommend it. ...more
