Resumiendo, me... gustó, pero hasta ahí. Me agradó la historia, los personajes, y la diversidad que trae consigo. También, me decepcionó en partes, en algunas mucho. Lectura normalona, libro equis, sencillas dos estrellas.
Ahora, yendo a lo específico.
Como retelling como tal de El gran Gatsby hubieron cosas que me quedaron mucho a deber. Hay ciertos factores que siento que son indispensables en la historia, elementos que hacen del libro lo que es, hablando de temas, matices y características. Hay mucho de eso que no esta presente aquí, y se sabe que en este tipo de libros es válido tomarse libertades creativas. De hecho, me gustaron algunos de los elementos nuevos que agrego Anna-Marie McLemore, pero para mi gusto personal hubieron cosas que no se debieron haber eliminado. Siento que esta historia, El Gran Gatsby, no funciona como libro juvenil. Hay tanto de los personajes que no se puede traducir en adolescentes, y eso hace que se pierda MUCHO. Tampoco es que sea el más fan del libro original, pero hasta cierto punto Self-Made Boys olvida tanto de lo original que hubiera funcionado mejor como historia independiente, no como retelling.
Sin duda, siento que donde este libro resalta dentro de todo lo demás es en la manera en la que involucra los temas respecto a la experiencia trans y al racismo. Anna-Marie McLemore escribe con una gentileza extrema la identidad, tanto de género como de orientación sexual, que es imposible no sentirla como un tributo; una oda al dolor y la belleza que esta trae consigo. El hecho de que nuestros protagonistas sean chicos trans, uno de ellos racializado, agrega un gran punto de vista nuevo. Me gustó como se trabajó, como fue puesto en perspectiva, como se trabajó y además que discusiones se trajeron a la mesa. Eso si se lo aplaudo. (Aclaro que también hay mucha diversidad en otros personajes que me parece igual de importante, aunque en esta novela se le dió enfoque justo a ellos dos)
Sin embargo, no puedo no mencionar el espantoso error de usar mal el español y la ironía que se presenta más adelante. Nick, que Anna Marie McLemore describe como "Mexican-American" en la nota del final, dice y cito: "Puedo seguir los manos", en vez de usar el artículo correcto (las), y unos cuantos capítulos después menciona que siempre se percata cuando alguien usa mal el idioma. Por favor autores y editoriales, chequen, revisen, investiguen y edúquense!! Independientemente de si tienen ascendencia latina o no, hagan bien el trabajo si van a involucrar elementos como esto. Literal con la MÍNIMA investigación esto no habría ocurrido. Ugh.

Este libro es literal Crazy Rich Asians + representación LGBTQ+. ¿Qué más puedo pedir? Me encantaron los clichés de fake dating y (que personalmente este es uno de mis favoritos ever) personaje rico + personaje que no lo es. No se, dan mucho espacio a grandes interacciones, muy buen banter y muy buenos momentos. Theo y Dylan delivered.
No le doy más calificación porque me gustó, pero hasta ahí. Tal vez fue que lo llegue a sentir un poco corto, o que algunas decisiones de la autora sobre como llevar la historia no me encantaron porque mezclaba muchas cosas que sentía yo no congeniaban (sea porque metía cosas muy serias en momentos donde resaltaban mucho y luego no les daba mucho desarrollo) pero no diría que es uno de mis nuevos favoritos. Eso sí, es un libro muy encantador que te hará pasar muy buenos momentos.

Esta es de esas historias super feel good que no puedes evitar amar mientras lees. Es super sencillo (la realidad es de que el conflicto es casi nulo) pero te enamoras rápidamente de todo. Los personajes son, sorpresivamente, tridimensionales!!!! Lo cual me sorprendió considerando que algunos BLs que he leído me han dejado muy underwhelmed con como trabajan sus arcos de trama.
Podría decir que es perfecto, aunque ese mini aspecto furro me parece medio extraño todavía JAJAJA. En teoría es lindo, pero cuando le pienso demasiado me pone algo incómodo entonces decido ignorarlo.

Al final muere el primero es un libro que anticipaba mucho. No voy a mentir, al inicio pensé (y sigo pensando to be honest) que este libro nació gracias al mero éxito y viralidad que tuvo Al Final Mueren Los Dos en Tiktok. Pero también puedo decir que me pareció una gran hisoria.
La historia de Orion y Valentino es linda. Muy linda. Regresar al mundo de Muerte Súbita es una experiencia agridulce. Por una parte sabes que te van a romper el corazón, pero también sabes que tendrá un gran corazón (no pun intended). Personalmente, al menos de lo que recuerdo, me gustó más la de Rufus y Mateo, pero la de estos dos chicos también me calentó cuando tenía que hacerlo y me lastimó cuando era necesario. Adam sabe justo como darte donde te duele.
Orion y Valentino son buenos protagonistas, especialmente Valentino. Más allá de que me encanten sus nombres, me gustó mucho lo diferentes que son, y lo que cada uno de ellos representan. Me encanto verlos interactuar, verlos revelarse poco a poco. Claro, algo que tienen estos libros es que tienes que suspender un poco tu disbelief para creer que dos personas se pueden enamorar en menos de un día, pero este al menos hace un gran trabajo mostrandote como es que los sentimientos son totalmente genuinos.
Lo que más me gustó de la novela fue sin duda la perspectiva que tenemos de Joaquin Rosa, el creador de Muerte Súbita. Es un punto de vista completamente distinto a los otros que tenemos, porque agrega mucho nuance a la situación. Vemos a la gente que les llaman para decirle que van a morir y vemos a la gente que trabaja del otro lado haciendo esas llamadas. Si Adams continua explotando este factor en la futura novela dentro de este mundo definitivamente puedo verla convirtiendose en mi favorita
Mi mayor problema, y aqui doy el beneficio de la duda a la traducción, es que por primera vez no me gustó la narración de Adam. En partes me parecía super plana, sin nada rescatable en cuanto a redacción y descripciones. Plana, esa es la palabra. Y en otras, y aquí es donde entra lo de la traducción, me parecía demasiado cringey . Había partes donde rechinaba los dientes y ponía los ojos en blanco porque no me gustaba nada como narraba ciertas cosas. Había dialogos que, por falta de una mejor expresión, me parecían (y me ponian) incomodos. No se sentía genuino como hablaban los protas, no se sentían reales.
Sí lo recomiendo, al final del día Adam es un autor que disfruto y quiero mucho. Estoy emocionado por el otro libro faltante dentro de este mundo. Siento que tiene mucho potencial....more

Sí, este libro tiene un buen de material que es problemático, bastante de hecho. Les recomiendo demasiado que si van a leer este libro chequen los trigger warnings, porque hay varias escenas con temas sensibles. Siento que indirectamente me preparé para esto porque, al ya tener presente todo lo que me iba a encontrar, estas escenas no me molestaron tanto, pero si me siguen pareciendo deplorables. Le doy el beneficio de la duda a C.S. Pacat y pienso que todo lo que tiene este libro respecto a esos temas es para profundizar en la ambientación y tensión política, además de abrir debates en cuanto a moralidad y lo que es socialmente visto como "correcto" en comparación con lo que los protagonistas creen y piensan, pero aún así tengan cuidado porque si esta fuerte jeje.
Dament y Laurent tienen una dinámica muy intrigante, ya que hay mucho -nuance- entre ellos. Este no es otro enemies to lovers más, hay mucho extra para cada uno de ellos, lo que hizo que me gustaran muchos sus escenas. Estoy interesado en ver como prosiguen, pues hay varias cosas que siguen debajo de la superficie que solo esperan su momento para explotar.

Recuerdo cuando lo leia en el metro cuando apenas llegue a Corea, y como la historia de Andy y Edward me hacia compañía cuando apenas me estaba acostumbrando a este nuevo lugar. Puede que no lo haya terminado de leer allá, pero si marcó ese espacio en el tiempo. Y ay, lo disfrute mucho.
En sí, la historia me gusto mucho. Ame bastante la relación de Andy y Edward y sí, puede que haya sido muy melosa en partes, pero a veces eso se necesita. Que más quiero yo que leer a dos chavillos ser felices porque se gustan y ya. Me la pase muy, muy bien leyendo este libro.
Mis criticas hacia este son todas relacionadas con la ejecución. Por una parte, el libro me parecía a veces redundante. Se te repite la misma información una, y otra, y otra vez. Yo leí le versión publicada (dado que compre el libro en kindle) por lo que no sé si se habrá editado de Wattpad antes de sacarlo en físico, pero creo que le hizo falta más edición. Igual con esto de que originalmente se publicó en Wattpad, el humor no funcionó del todo para mi. Si habian cosas que me sacaban una risa que otra, pero la mayoría de las veces se sentía que los chistes se habían puesto justo para causar una reacción en los comentarios. No se que tanto funcione en un formato tradicional.
