Reading this book was like reading a fleshed out summary. Zero emotional content, bizarrely brief and oddly written battles. Less than zero tension of any type and not even good spiciness to round it out. The plot line is effectively identical to so many others without good writing or plot twists to keep it interesting I.e. generic hot chick with sad back story fights in underground fights to battle her challenges literally and metaphorically - finds out she has magic (oh surprises!), is whisked off to a magical academy ‘ruled’ by three hot guys who make her life difficult in non specific ways (mostly glaring) and then is thrown into a surprisingly(?) deadly battle. Other authors have worked with the same material and done 100 times better. Whatever you are hoping for you will not find it here. Still 2 stars as there aren’t horrific editing errors, internal inconsistencies or weird scenarios involving brothers (but if thats your thing so be it….)...more

Having read a more recent book by this author and with a hankering for some pirate adventure I gave this series a try. Unfortunately this series was not piratey enough. It turns out to be a fairly standard disadvantaged young woman turns out to be powered up super woman with multiple fates mates and a destiny to kill the evil king! The pirates are nice and dressed in tight pants, lace up shirts, sexy long jackets and various attractive hair / facial hair styles but their pirate-ness is incidental - and while usually I’d say there’s no such thing as too many pirates - these pirates blurred together with no character development. Not enough swashbuckling, swabbing the decks, climbing the rigging or crossing of swords………. I think if she wrote it again now as a more developed author it would be better. ...more

There’s nothing new here plot wise but Roxy has a way to her writing which makes the characters more believable (within the, let’s be honest, unbelievable ‘omega’ context) this omega is not entirely pointless and hotline driven so when she gets her inevitable HEA it seems well deserved. Of course there are still brooding but very well equipped men, mild stalking tendencies, masked balls, designer wardrobes. Penthouse suites, troubled pasts. secrets and a puppy - but what would an omega based story be without them (except maybe the puppy? thats new!)...more

So - you know how some movie sequels feel like the makers are either out of ideas or have lots of ideas but none are good enough to carry a whole movie but they make it anyways because there are people who will want to see it after enjoying the first one?? Well - that is this book. A random mishmash of barely connected stories, each with little to no tension and zero character development, more loose ends than a pile of shoes, poorly written and shockingly vanilla sexy fun times.. I really shouldn’t be disappointed in the end of this really quite tame and derivative ‘dark’ story .. but if you’re reading this review you’re probably too far in to give up - if it helps you feel like you can stop now - she gets away from the kidnapper within a few pages with no real harm done…...more

While the way things end up at the end of the series seems, at the end of book 3, to be fairly predictable, it’s been a fun journey to take so far and I’m looking forward to the last book. Beckett is the very definition of both broody enemies to lovers (if vague hatred and grumpiness is actually enemy behaviour) and ‘best friends brother’ - such a tortured soul! If I had one complaint it’s that both main characters spend way too much time thinking to themselves. It’s got to be physically impossible to do that much thinking and self reflection in the short time frames allowed - pages of internal dialogue can occur between sentences in a conversation. If they did less internal monologue the first three books would be done in two… maybe one… Still five stars because I’m living it....more

A nice, classic, slow-burn romance featuring my absolute favorite trope - official law enforcement officer works with someone who isn’t law enforcement but brings a fresh set of complementary skills that makes a dynamic duo! Romance ensues!! Slayer and vampire working together in a crime fighting urban fantasy worth a read. Also features reasonably predictable side plots and an Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark dilemma - if the heroes did nothing would the ending have been any different?...more

This book apparently tells the story of a character from the previous book - but while they are standalone, if you read this one first you won’t need to go back to read the first! I was so confused within minutes - which guys are which? Add in shortened names and nicknames and it was a really challenge! Entirely predictably the boys mess up half way through - and unlike many books where there is a journey to forgiveness, in this book the author relies on a disappointing plot device to lead to a happy ending. If it wasn’t for the inability to grasp the difference between they’re and their or pop an apostrophe in the right spot I’d wonder if it was even the same author! Secondly - Great story - can’t wait for (hope there is) the next one. I really enjoyed this despite the editing glitches. Do recommend if you love a story where a strong female lead grows into a powerful woman who will no doubt save the world and the hearts of a group of sexy and well endowed men (although we’ll have to wait til the next book to confirm…)...more
