It's in the style of menu plans, where you get 52 different menus, each with a main dish, a side, and a dessert recipe. Some of them are basic, beginners recipes, but there are others that will be tried and possibly added into my recipe box. I recommend this book for anyone who enjoys cooking, (since there are some awesome recipes that I wouldn't have considered before) or anyone who is just starting out (there are some awesome, simple-to-make recipes throughout the book). Can't wait to try out some of these recipes!...more

ThThe seventh installment of the Women of the Otherworld series follows Jaime as she uncovers mysterious spirits on the set of a show she is filming. The spirits were sacrificed by humans so they could use the ashes for magic purposes, and Jaime must find out who is conducting these rituals so they can be stopped. We have visits from Eve, Jeremy, and Karl in this book, and (view spoiler)[Jaime and Jeremy finally get together!! It's beautiful. (hide spoiler)] I honestly wasn't expecting to like a book told from Jaime's perspective as much as I did, and it really gave me a different view of how I previously pictured her. This book is well-written and I enjoyed getting to know Jaime's character a bit better....more

This book features many recipes that are common to the holidays: pumpkin pie, ham and turkey recipes, stuffing, etc., as well as recipes that are traditional to the families that have contributed to the book. I found many great ones in here, and each page has a little holiday anecdote, quote, or craft idea on the bottom. Homemade ornaments and crafts that can be sent as presents are also included at the end of the book. I think my favorite part of the book was the "Christmas Past" section where people sent in their holiday memories and traditions for us to read. There was one I found in there that I'd like to incorporate later on in life: have each family member write down something good they did each day in December to put in a box throughout the month; on Christmas, put the box under the tree so it can be opened and the notes can be read aloud to the family.
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the holiday season. ...more

Practice having the open heart and unconditional love they show to you. Focus on the here and now, looking neither to the past nor to the future. Celebrate the precise moment you are in as the dog does with its glad tail. Express your appreciation for the present as the cat does with its gentle purr. Your animals have much to teach you. Humble yourself and learn."

I picked up this book because I grew up adoring the Mowry twins, and it ended up being a pretty good read. I thought the information at the beginning I picked up this book because I grew up adoring the Mowry twins, and it ended up being a pretty good read. I thought the information at the beginning of the book about health and eating right was very informative and helpful to those who don't know much about healthy eating habits and what you should be putting into your body to properly maintain it. The recipes were not really my style, however; I saved a few of them but not many.. there was quite a bit of seafood used (plants and creatures alike), which I don't generally eat. ...more

Elena, a female werewolf, is pregnant with werewolf twins (which is basically unheard of in the werewolf world.) Much of the story deals with her pregnancy. The rest of it deals with a letter that contained a portal, unleashing "Jack the Ripper" and a couple zombies. Elena and the Pack go through a lot just to close up the portal and keep the Pack and the babies safe. It's hard to believe someone pregnant with twins would have went through half the things that Elena does, but that may just be the werewolf super-strength thing. The Pack deals with rat attacks, zombie bites, and a serial killer who tries to get into their close-knit family, and very nearly succeeds. Interesting plot, for sure....more

It wasn't that big of a problem for me, but it seems like they just read through their recipes and found the places where cuss words could be inserted at every opportunity. The recipes were alright; this is a vegan cookbook and uses a lot of tofu products (which I'm not particularly fond of.) Some of the recipes were saved to my storage for later use, however. This is a tale of a group of runaway teenagers who end up addicted to smack/junk, aka heroin. We watch the characters spiral out of control, thinking "oh, I'll just be able to quit when I want to" which we find out is definitely not the case. Love happens, pregnancies happen (one in which the baby is basically born an addict as well), and death happens in one occurrence. Every chapter is told from someone else's perspective, which was one of my favorite aspects of this book. We hear about the addicts from their perspective as well as the perspectives of others. Great book for those who don't know what it's like to experience the disease of addiction, as well as for those who have walked that path before (be it their own or someone close to them). May be triggering for anyone in recovery....more

We can survive the wicked witches, the fire-breathing dragons, and all of our dire imaginings. We can escape the locked dungeons, unscalable towers, imprisoning judgments, and self-limiting fears. We can outlast the poisons, curses, misfortunes, and unforeseen perils. We simply have to be what, in our silent depths, we already are. We simply have to do what, in our inexplicable wisdom, we can do without a second thought. This is your new spiritual practice: cracking a smile.
This book was absolute perfection, and one that I will be coming back to time and time again. Miller discusses how to incorporate Zen practices into your life and into your motherhood to create a happy atmosphere. Tons of great advice and awesome quotes to go with it! I truly recommend that every mother read this book; this is easily the best parenting book I've read....more

The Baudelaire's misfortune continues in this sequel to The Bad Beginning, and here they are living with "Uncle Monty" and his reptiles. Count Olaf is back to try to squander their plans and their happiness, and he does just that. These books are good for middle-age vocabulary building, however there are a lot of cases in both this book and the first where "I KNOW what *insert word here* means!" is stated among all the characters. I get that they are trying to explain what words mean, but that phrase gets annoying after awhile. The story is also fairly predictable. The audiobook narrator did an awesome job with the voices of the different characters, and it's definitely worth a listen. Great book for read-aloud and discussion among middle-age students....more
