This book was recommended to me, and is a new to me author. It was an okay read and didn’t really draw me in. I knew from the beginning who the murderer was so it wasn’t a surprise, though the characters were mostly likable without much depth. I mostly likely will not continue this series, but though it isn’t my cup of tea. Maybe it is yours. ...more

This was a quick, good read, but nothing really happens. It was a little odd, as typically stories have a couple different plots, or something that occurs to spur the plot on. It was good for an easy read when I needed to decompress. ...more

I have been enjoying this quick read with fun characters and a simple murder mystery each book has. Alas, when I began the series I wasn’t a fan of the love triangle, and with the last book switching love interests, the book isn’t as interesting. Ember and Alec have no chemistry, their interactions are stilted and it isn’t fun to read. Ember and Granger were engaging, humerus and had a spark. Also, I am not a fan of Marley’s wand. I don’t know why Ember doesn’t just talk to her and get her a new one. I will continue to read the next books as it is a fun, clean, quick read. ...more

This is a new to me author, and was a quick read. I enjoyed most of the book, but towards the end the pace picked up without allowing for the story to naturally flow. Given it is a short, standalone book, the author did a decent job fleshing out the characters, plot and world. It is a clean book. ...more

It took me some time to get into the story, though when I did it was a quick, easy read. I enjoy duel POV, though Lys could have been done a little better. As the book was getting close to the end, I thought there might have to be more books as there was no way they could resolve everything still left in the plot. I was wrong. It was such an anti-climatic ending that was rushed, way too easy and unrealistic. It was as if there was a page limit and it had been reached. I have read great series by this author before, but they weren’t standalone. I think this is a hard one for authors to get right as you have to establish the world, flesh out characters, have an engaging plot and wrap it all up in one book. I am unsure if I will read more in this world. ...more

I really enjoy this world, the characters, and the story. This is a standalone, but since we are introduced to the characters in the two previous books, the story works well. It is a duel POV, which I enjoy, and has a HEA. I am looking forward to Mira and Tait’s story next. This is not a clean book, but it is easy to skip the scenes. ...more

This is a new to me author, and a quick read. I liked both Mena and Corbin, as well as the otter friend, but as I mentioned this is a quick read with a mere 226 pages. That is not enough time to flesh out the characters, plot and world. I typically don’t like to read short stand-alones as they leave a lot to be desired, and that was the case with this book. I gave it four stars because I knew all of this beforehand, but still wanted to give the book a try. If you are looking for a simple, fast read with fun characters, then you may enjoy it. ...more

Overall, this was an enjoyable conclusion to the trilogy and provided a good, if somewhat predictable, story. Infernal Devices is still my favorite trilogy, and being back in that world allowed me to enjoy this trilogy more (especially after the letdown of Dark Artifices). I feel as if there was an excess of angst and miscommunication, leading to a lack of depth in the shadow hunter world. We don’t really get to see the awesomeness of the parabatai, as it is glossed over and just talked about. The love triangle was ridiculous, especially as there was already a forced love triangle to begin with due to the bracelet. As with the last trilogy, this one was too long and had me skimming at points. I am hopeful the last trilogy in the shadow hunter world will be better. ...more

I have had a more difficult time getting into the shadow hunter series, though this one was better than the last trilogy. It was an interesting plot, and I do enjoy the characters, but there is a lot of repetition as well as needless drama. I understand the plot needs to keep going, but surely there are other devices that can be used. This book has a lot more going on, and I am looking forward to seeing how it will all be resolved. I of course enjoy seeing Will, Tessa and Gem as well as putting together pieces that will impart the further, and how they came to play in previous books. ...more
