He’s not making his way onto my list of book boyfriends, mind you. At least not yet. I can’t quite find his traumatized, ocd self with an overdose of daddy issues attractive, per se, but I am… interested. However, I do appreciate him as a person. He’s not quite as evil as I thought he was and he has a well rounded character. I really enjoyed this novella; it was well-written and gave a lot of helpful insight on warner’s character. I’d definitely recommend reading this one in between the first and second books!

I’m not sure what I was expecting tbh. I was prepared for deranged metaphors & writing, an annoying main character, a love triangle, and a hot morally gray villain. and I got all those things, I guess. but this was still not what I was expecting at all and it was one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read.

for a 2013 contemporary with a love triangle and heaps of teenage angst, this was amazing.
it hooks you from the beginning, with very little filler or drag. You’re immediately curious at how the story will unfold— but let me tell you, you will probably never guess what is going to happen next. My advice is, don’t even try to guess, because you’ll probably just end up looking stupid like me.
this is just one of those books— where every single character is smarter than you, and you’re just doing your best to keep up.

there’s an adenamak-sized hole in my chest. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be truly okay again.
my expectations for this book were honestly quite low after the mess (sorry <3) that was powerless, but I had some hope that it would be better– and of course, I wanted to have my heart broken. But I regret that decision deeply, as this book didn’t just break my heart. It stomped on it and tossed it in a blender.
despite my mournful state after reading powerful, I still loved it more than I ever thought I would. It was, as Mak would say, a little piece of perfection (yes, he did say that about Adena. No, I'm not crying as I write this). Seriously, this book was so pure and sweet and beautiful. adenamak are simply the most adorable couple. Mak spent his whole life believing he didn’t deserve happiness, or to smile. but Adena comes along, and being with her gives him more joy than he ever thought was possible. I just… I can’t. I cannot.
The quality of writing here has much improved since powerless. I didn’t cringe at all, which makes me even more excited for the second book's release in July. I’m both excited and terrified to see where the plot goes and how Mak will play into Paedyn’s story.
If you enjoyed powerless even a little bit, I highly recommend this little novella. Just make sure to have tissues next to you.

above all, this is a story of love. of maia's love for her family, and the love she shares with edan, and the depths and heights she is willing to go for them. was this the best book I ever read? no. was it a little bland at times? yes. there were times when I didn't really want to read it, but I did anyway— and I'm glad I did. because in the end, this was a lovely conclusion.

I just couldn't connect with her a whole lot. but she had some wonderful character development, and I liked seeing her struggle against the demon trying to devour her; it rounded out her character quite a bit. she's still a little bland, but in the end, I did like her!

I'm absolutely blown away by this book; even more so than I was the first time I read it. I'm blown away by stefania podgórska and everything she stood for and everything she did. I'm blown away once again by the sheer horror of how the jews were treated during wwII, something that no humans should have to go through. and I'm blown away by sharon cameron, her talent and tact at crafting such a meticulously researched and beautiful story. sharon cameron, it seems, understood stefania on a personal level. It truly felt like I was reading a diary or a memoir.

except they aren't rats. You are hiding thirteen jews in your tiny attic, and you could be caught and shot through the head at any second.
such is the horror and fear that stefania podgórska experienced every day, at every second. It's a wonder she didn't buckle and break under the pressure; I certainly would have. and it's even more of a wonder how many close calls she somehow emerged from mostly unscathed. God had His hand on her, guiding her, and protecting her so she could save thirteen of His people.

someone without a bone of writing talent in their body could write about this and I would be mesmerized; the story is simply so astounding. But sharon cameron is one of the most talented authors I have read, and she tells this story better than I imagine anyone else could. every minute detail was researched and perfected by reading stefania's secret memoir and talking to people who knew stefania personally. stefania podgórska is the definition of a hidden hero in history, but this novel brings her story to light in a beautiful way. The Light in Hidden Places is a book that I think everyone should read, even if historical fiction isn't your preferred genre or even if you hardly ever read, because it's a story everyone should know.
