I had a hard time connecting with their love story. I just didn't feel it. He went from virgin to experienced very quickly. I'm guessing the author had him as a virgin to show that no one would want to be with him since he's an outcast. But that storyline felt off to me.

Both of them like each other but they don't let the other know for fear of ruining their friendship. Since we had dual POV we got to be in both characters' heads. I found Bree to be annoying with her constant self-doubt. But besides that I found this to be a fun book.

The Happy Ever After Playlist got me from the opening scene. The reason for that is I had a somewhat similar thing happen to me the prior day with a dog. Sloan is driving down the road when a dog darts out in front of her car. She stops and the dog ends up jumping through her sunroof into her car. A police officer shows up and writes her a ticket because she's impeding traffic by stopping in the middle of the road. My incident isn't as exciting as Sloans but I did have a dog dart out in front of my car causing me to slam on my brakes.
The dog, Tucker, stole my heart and was how Sloan and Jason got together. Jason is the owner of Tucker but he's in Australia on a business trip. The dogsitter failed and that's how Tucker ended up running in the road.
I just love the dog aspect of this book. As the book goes along the dog isn't really the central focus for the couple because they don't have to have him as their common ground.
The first part of the book was fun and flirty as Sloan and Jason start dating. The second part of the book was more drama-filled as they try to figure out how to deal with groupies and life on the road.
THE HAPPY EVER AFTER PLAYLIST ● painter / musician ● Tucker: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever ● get-to-know-you texting ● years prior Sloan's fiancé died

Azere has immigrated to America with her family after her father has passed. Before her father died he made her promise to not lose her culture and to marry a Nigerian man. Those lines get messy when Azere is at a bar where she meets an Italian man, Rafael, and has a one-night stand with him.
Azere had figured her one-night stand would stay that way and never follow her into everyday life. But instead, Azere's life gets even messier when Rafael is the new hire at her work.
I like how the author gave us a glimpse into the complexities of interracial dating and what it means to families. Azere's mom wasn't happy when her daughter was involved with this non-Nigerian man.

Hey, Kiddo is the author's story of growing up with a drug-addicted mom and being raised by his grandparents. The author chose to share his memoir in a graphic novel for teens. The themes were hard-hitting in this book: drugs, overdosing, murder, alcoholism, stealing, etc. But set in a graphic novel helped keep it from being too much to process.
I loved how the overall theme was how art helped Jarrett process his feelings about his life situation. The part about him and his incarcerated mom sending drawings back and forth as a way to try to make a connection was sweet.

For me, this didn't feel like a romance. There are two things that make a book a romance: a central love story and a HEA/HFN. This felt more like women's fiction than it did a romance.
On Goodreads it was shelved as Christian Fiction/Christian Romance. For me, this didn't feel like a Christian book. I'm not sure if readers felt it was a Christian book based on the author's previous books -Amish. Or if it was that that there is no sex in it? Or that they mention church a couple of times?
The overall story was an easy read.

I know it wasn't just her family who failed Ellie, the kids at school were cruel towards her too. BUT her safe place should have been her home and it wasn't. Her mom and brother were cruel with their words towards her. Her mom continued taking her to different doctors to talk about surgery to fix her fatness. If it wasn't for Ellie's dad I would have chucked this book out the window. He took a different approach with Ellie to let her know she's okay no matter what size she is.
An important book for kids to read and see how their actions can hurt others.

India has returned home for a visit when she's slapped in the face by seeing someone she used to crush on. That someone is her sister's ex-husband, Travis. But before he married her sister -out of obligation- India & Travis were hot for each other. Now all these years later she's returned and Travis is single.
A major roadblock in their relationship is that she loves her sister and doesn't want to hurt her by dating her ex-husband.
And if that didn't make for a complicated situation India's dad rules his adult kids lives. The meddling he does in his adult kids lives was frustrating to watch.
The hurdles India and Travis must jump through to keep everyone happy except themselves is aggravating at times.

Most people probably know her from her performance of The Hill We Climb during the 2021 presidential inauguration. Or from the Super Bowl LV where she was the first poet to perform at the Super Bowl.

The basic storyline is about an ordinary girl who looks like a famous actress and is asked to fill in for her. While the ordinary girl is being the "stand-in" the actress is able to take a mental break from the spotlight. Of course, there is a guy who is the actress's friend and co-star that catches the eye of the "stand-in."

I've never read a book about someone with cerebral palsy. The narrator is a young non-verbal girl named Melody. WOW! Another great middle-grade book.
I've never read a book about someone with cerebral palsy. The narrator is a young non-verbal girl named Melody. Besides not being able to form words, only her thumbs function in a normal manner. Only those who are closest to her know how intelligent she is, everyone else underestimates her. Not until she receives a machine that allows her to speak do others begin to realize that she's more than a girl sitting in a chair.
The trials and tribulations Melody experiences really allow the reader to feel her struggles. We as the reader experience her frustration, sorrow, happiness, to name just a few of the many emotions this book evokes.
Out of My Mind was published in 2010 and next week a second book about Melody will be released. I look forward to reading it.

Her inability to read has lead to her doing inappropriate things in school. All these antics make her teacher and fellow students believe Ally is a misfit.
When her teacher is on maternity leave Ally's class gets a new teacher, Mr. Daniels. Mr. Daniels has taken the time to recognize the differences in the students and work with each of them. He is continuing his own education and is taking classes on helping kids with special needs.
He is able to help Ally see that she isn't "stupid" like she has been made to feel. Her lack of being able to fully participate in class was due to her dyslexia and not because she wasn't smart enough to do the work.
I enjoyed seeing a different side of the aisle type of book. Being in Ally's head and hearing what was going on in her mind gives the reader a little glimpse into the complex world of dyslexia.

September is Deaf Awareness Month and I picked up this book not aware that the heroine is deaf. A pleasant surprise and an appropriate read for this awareness month.
Eveline Armstrong had been in a horrible horse accident that left her deaf. Prior to the accident, she had been betrothed to marry a horrible man. After the accident, she stopped speaking because she couldn't tell how her voice sounded. Her family began to think she was "touched in the head." She allowed everyone to think that to prevent her family from marrying her off to that horrible man.
THE KING HAS HAD ENOUGH OF THE TWO WARRING CLANS - ARMSTRONG & MONTGOMERY - THAT HE HAS DECLARED THAT THEY HAVE TO HAVE A MARRIAGE BETWEEN THE CLANS.
Graeme Montgomery was to marry the touched Armstrong girl. He was okay with the idea because he was a busy man who didn't have time to spend on a wife and he had people who could look after her. What he didn't expect was for his sister to be able to communicate with Eveline.
Their worlds began to change once they figure out how to communicate with each other. Graeme begins to admire Eveline. One big problem was his clan did NOT like her because of her last name. It caused a lot of strife amongst the clan members.
This is my first book by Ms. Banks and I'm looking forward to more books by her.
