8/31/22: Again, denied. This year it is for The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict . I was a top reviewer on Her Hidden Genius by Marie Benedict . Denied, then got the book mailed to me in advance and 3 additional books, too. This year, I am definitely more in ‘Go with the Flow Mentality’ By the time I finish the other Marie Benedict books I have and all the other Science books I have, it will be January. 😂 Wish me luck and wish everyone else the same. 🧬 is Interesting. Her Hidden Genius was Excellent. I highly recommend reading it. Perhaps, hit Like and maybe I have an admirer at Sourcebooks, getting my book and chocolates together right now.

8/10/22: Excited~I just found out Marie Benedict’s next book about The Mitford Sisters is coming out in January of 2023! Looking forward to this one. The Mitford Affair by Marie Benedict . I just realized each Mitford Sister lead such different lives. Nancy Mitford was a famous author. I just was looking into a book about Zelda Fitzgerald written by her.

I learned a lot about DNA 🧬 and Science from Her Hidden Genius. Definitely, recommend this one. It is free on Kindle if you have Kindle Unlimited. Love the Cover, made to look like the Double Helix. So, glad Rosalind Franklin is finally being given the credit she deserves. She was a brilliant woman, yet 2 men got a Noble Prize without crediting her work. That was shameful. Definitely Recommend to Read this one.

Update: I just finished this book and it was fascinating. I love to learn about science, especially women who work in science. I had only recently heard of Rosalind Franklin and the extraordinary work she did with X-Ray Photos to prove the structure of DNA. She was working at a time when it was very difficult for a woman to be accepted as wanting to be a scientist and taken seriously. She persevered anyway, was known as highly intelligent, and was doing groundbreaking work on the DNA structure for several years. Although she loved her work, she was still belittled and not treated equally. Her work was taken and she never received credit for her extraordinary contributions. Instead the Nobel Peace Prize went to James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins, which relied on her work but her name was not mentioned. It was really interesting to read about her fictionalized life, I think Marie Benedict did a great job researching it. I am glad she is finally getting the attention she deserves. So, really glad to learn so much information that I never heard at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory that James Watson oversaw. It really is shameful to not give another scientist credit and take it on as your own.

Tears 😢😢😢 I did not get an ARC of this one. I was so excited when I saw my e-Mail b/c usually NetGalley only updates me if I got it. I don’t know how I am supposed to prove I’m active on certain groups or make weekly e-book recommendations to my 3 Libby Library Accounts and then they purchase that book. I tried. I posted pictures holding the book on Book Club Favorites. I am bad with links. Is this even right? https://www.facebook.com/groups/bookc...

As always, I can take a joke and wrote please feel free to laugh at me, not with me as I’m getting so wrapped up in getting copy of a book. 😂. Life these days has been pretty serious for many people, myself included. I have two parents in their 80’s. I was just trying to get a book from Sourcebooks and love that some people I know do awesome reviews and great and amusing blog posts, but I don’t think I’d be too great at that. I have improved my HTML skills and last year didn’t even know how to Post a Cover of a Book. Learned GR makes it easy, with the Insert Book button. This was all just in good fun, nothing serious.

I just went to the Cold Spring Harbor Library so many times when my daughter was young. Rosalind Franklin got no credit and wasn’t given a Nobel Prize like James Watson. So, I was shocked when I saw this book at my Favorite Indie book store on the Selling Floor. It was an accident and could not be sold. The Owner did let me take pictures. I know I am being silly. I have so many great books to read right now, but ever forget that and just decide you want another book? 📚 I will have to wait. I was going to purchase the Hard Copy in January anyway for my Daughter and I. I know there are much more important things going on.

I got the Book 😊. Now after all that, I must squeeze it in and read it! Sourcebooks sent me three other great books, too. I don’t know why, but very cool.

It seems crazy now, that a woman would have to struggle with her family to study Science, but it’s kind of human. Women were discouraged when I grew up and that was the 1980’s-1990’s from liking Science, so can definitely get her struggle."

Susan's Reviews Thanks for posting this on your profile. I'm going to see if I can get a copy as well! Women: always getting the short end of the stick - but hopefully, not anymore!!!

Susan, yes I totally agree with you. Hope you get a copy. She such an intelligent woman, I just found out after reading Little People, Big Dreams Series for kids. I learned about her. I try to suggest this great series to our library. After all those trips to James Watson’s Cold Spring Laboratory, never mentioned. Yes, women deserve their credit!

I don’t even know why, but I also got 3 other Source Books I wanted about libraries + Chocolates! Plus, is running around, taking pictures, begging the publisher, and posting everywhere considered patience? Probably not, but their books advocate trying and using your voice, plus advocate for girls and my daughter knew all about this as a girl, so that is great. So, guess I did do that 😊

Yun, thanks so much. I was so surprised when I went to my mailbox and got the package. A non-fiction book called The Secret of Life just came out at my library about this, too, so really interesting.

Susan's Reviews I got rejected as well, so lets start a club! Some publishers only give out ARCs to booksellers, magazine and newspaper reviewers, school and library acquisitions clerks, and only the top notch Influencers. The rest of us have to wait for publication day.
Big sigh, but your day will come!

Susan, I never know. Books I think I will get rejected for, I get and others no. I ended up getting a package with the physical book and 3 other books from Sourcebooks. Maybe, b/c I’ve reviewed several of their not well received non-fiction books? I got my library account to purchase those? Certainly, they never said that. Well, good news. I even got Lindt Truffles. I was really surprised. Maybe, it was a mistake, but happy to have it! 😊 I will read this one before publication, but actually have been putting for less NG books b/c I end up not even reading them by publication. I have too many 📚 books. So, other then it’s a book like this one that I really want, I just put in and see. I have 5 to read for this month and then want to finish other books for challenges and Goodreads Award Winners. Well, hope you have books you like and are happily reading. 📖

Annette Kristine, so glad that at last you got a copy of this book and that you enjoyed it so much. I've noticed that I never get approved with Berkley. So I stopped requesting their books :)

Annette, thanks so much. I pretty much begged the publisher, and it’s Sourcebooks Publishing. They still turned me down. It may have been a mistake b/c I got a package with this one and three other ‘books about books’ and the upcoming time of a Video Discussion. It may have been a mistake, or someone just took pity on me. I was pretty excited though. Getting approved is really hit or miss for me.

Annette Kristine, I once was declined by Harper Perennial for a book by an author I've reviewed for this publisher before. So I was very surprised, but then maybe a month or two down the road, they sent me a direct email with a link to NG to download the copy. Go figure :)

Annette, yes I get that. I have been determined to review all my books for January this month. Suddenly, 2 books I put in for months ago, I just got approved for. It makes it hard to plan your reading this way. That’s my biggest problem. Good luck, hope you get the books you want.

Maria~Thank you so very much 🌷 Yes, I feel the same~the women worked so hard, but had a difficult time being taken seriously or getting a job at all. Nice to see pushing for more women to be recognized for Scientific Work.

Maria, Yes, we all advance based on the work of people before us. It is important to always remember this. Today, we should work on needed change to make things better for the next generation, too. I love your books and talking to you, too. 💕😌

You’re definitely right. Since we have a better life due to the efforts of our ancestors, for the sake of the future generations, we should keep on that trail …

You’re definitely right, Kristine. Reading is a way of traveling in many senses. We get out of our own lives to know, to be surprised, to expand our horizons…
And the information we get is a tool to improve our own lives (and others…) by making better choices…
My dear Kristine I have a very high opinion of you and talking to you makes me very happy

Ines, I really love her books, think The Personal Librarian, with Victoria Christopher Murray I think was my favorite. Have to get reading the others I have, not crying about the latest one I want. Have to laugh at myself 🤣.

Hope you like it. Will keep checking your reviews. My best to you and of course, your books 📚

Margaret M - (too far behind to catch up although trying to spend more time on GR) Glad you managed to get a copy and finish 😅 terrific review. Sounds really intriguing

Rosh~Thanks so much. I love reading your reviews, too. This year, denied again 🥲. Last year, before I realized how ‘serious’ getting ARC’s was. I was kind of going crazy, with Covid Lockdown and looking after both my parents in their 80’s. I wanted this book, mostly before my daughter’s birthday. Then I was able to get out of the house and went to my favorite Indy Bookshop. Her Hidden Genius was on the selling floor! Crazy, never seen that before. So, after that I just was having a fun time with it. I can take things too seriously sometimes. So, posted this and also on FB Group and other cooped up people seemed to like it. Reading is for fun and have met many great people here, you are one of them. 😊

Kristine Margaret M wrote: "Glad you managed to get a copy and finish 😅 terrific review. Sounds really intriguing"

Margaret~Thanks! It was a great book, but so interested since lived so close to Cold Spring Harbor, NY and went there with my daughter many times. I wanted the book before her birthday, since divorce was very hard on her and know she remembers James Watson and his laboratory. So, read this last November. Love that you are always so kind with your comments and really appreciate it 💕

Margaret M - (too far behind to catch up although trying to spend more time on GR) It is always nice to have a personal connection to the places and people we read about. Glad you enjoyed 💞
