3.5 stars!

My, (too high), expectations caused me to be slightly disappointed in this book.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane was a fairy tale type story, but somehow it just felt short of reaching the level of magic that I was seeking. It was well written and the characters were memorable, but I'm still left with this unsatisfied feeling and I can't seem to come up with an exact reason why.

I reserve the right to come back and modify this review when I can get a better handle on what I want to say.

Jen My issue with Ocean is (view spoiler) I tried to let that go, but I'm still wondering after a couple of years.

Yes! Thank you! That and a few other things were my main issues with the story. (view spoiler) Ughhh, frustrating!

Karl -- I got a signed copy of this book last year, I looked through it, I'm not a big Gaiman fan, so I gave it to my daughter as she indicated she was interested in reading the book due to all of the hype, When I asked her about it the other day she said she still had not read it. --

Gaiman is hit or miss for me. There's just no telling what I'm going to think!

Edward I liked this one, didn't love it. I never really liked the protagonist. I adored the character of Lettie Hempstock and will remember her for a long time, Ursala Monkton was an interesting character too, not a great monster, but good enough I thought.

Yes... it sounds like you felt simlar to the way I did, Edward. Still good, but just short of the GREAT that I was expecting.
It's good to see you here, my friend. :)
