really liked it

A sea of tranquillity in a world gone to sh*t

This is the second "pandemic" book I've read recently; that is, a book written (probably while in lockdown) during the Covid19 pandemic. It's the first that actually utilises Covid in its storyline. This is beautifully written and the story is deliciously and delicately twisted over a period of a few hundred years.

Time travel novels actually screw up my brain and I don't have a screwdriver that fixes the problem. I often find them taxing, and have to go back and read bits again. Not so with this one. The characters are complex rather than irritating, the chapters as short as they need to be, and Ms St. John Mandel doesn't seem to have verbal diarrhoea either. (Such a relief!)

I enjoyed this and I'm sure you will too.

Holly B (slower pace!) Can't do pandemic books at the moment, but a great review!

It's more of a time travel story with just a sprinkle of Covid19 added. I can only take a couple of time travel books per year though because they're pretty taxing to the old noggin.

Philip Not a huge fan of Station Eleven, but this sounds pretty interesting (and 80 pages shorter) so will give it a try!
