This book wasn’t necessarily bad at what it was trying to do, it’s just that none of it was really a good fit with my preferences.
I’ve noticed before that this author’s writing style just does not work for me all that well. It has this certain empty quality to it that almost makes it impossible for me to connect with either the characters or the story.
The fact that sex seems to completely dominate the romance and overall plot is a big no for me as well. It was all rather repetitive and kind of bored me most of the time.

Gabe was generally a likable character with his sunshiny confidence, while Marcus was very classically broody and grumpy. It was a nice dynamic in theory, but the execution was nothing to write home about. I didn’t much care for it.
The only thing I can truly say I loved in this book was whenever Marcus was being obsessed with Gabe’s gorgeousness and infectious charm: I always love it when the grump is being adoring. Gabe was also completely smitten with Marcus, though, so it wasn’t one-sided. Gabe was actually much more assertive in making Marcus his, which I would have preferred to be the other way around.

Anyway, all in all, this book wasn’t anything special and it didn’t hold my interest all that much. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t really enjoy it either.

Also, can we talk about this guy on the cover? Because he is so fucking hot, I literally can’t. He kind of reminds me of Matthew Daddario, but is somehow even more handsome. If this is what Gabe is supposed to look like in the book then I can see why Marcus was obsessed with him after only one single glance, because um.. Same.

~Nicole~ I had no idea who Daddario was so I googled him and then I was like: Ooooohhh him!! I know HIM !!! And hell yeah!!! 🤣🤣
Sorry this book was a bust .. This author’s stories are more and more shallow each time… 💕

Imme van Gorp @Kati — hahah I totally get why this would be a DNF; it was indeed very boring😐 You missed nothing tbh haha.
When it comes to continuing the series, I really do not want to. Yet.. it did end on a cliffhanger, sort of. And I maybe want to see how that goes? But also, do I really care? Probably not.. *sigh* tough decision loll

Imme van Gorp @Nicole — hahahah I think anyone who’s seen the Shadowhunters series will recognize Alec and it’s just undeniable how attractive his character was, and by extension the actor himself😂😂 Love him💞
Anyway, yes, when it comes to this book, shallow is definitely a pretty apt description🥴

len ❀ great review, imme! i’ve read one book from this author and i think i’m gonna keep it that way. usually i’m a masochist that wants to finish series, give the author multiple chances, or try another book/series from the author, but EF is one of the only authors i parted ways with early on. and every time i see another low rating for one of her books i feel more relieved. 😂 sorry this was a miss though, but also can’t say i’m super surprised, considering her writing, characters, and just the way the stories are executed.

Imme van Gorp @elena — Honestly, I am positive you have made a very smart decision there. I just know that this author would not be for you either, as is demonstrated by you not liking that one book of hers you read hahah. I might have to follow your lead with this author, and call it quits with her completely from now on. Her writing just isn’t.. good. It’s too empty and boring🫤

Lau (semi-hiatus) ♡ Ella Frank is not my favorite either. I liked a couple of books when I had just started reading MM, but when I reread them it was just... NO. I also hate that she likes to end books on cliffhangers 💀💀

Hope your next book is better!! 💛

Imme van Gorp @Lau — yup, this author just isn’t all that great. It just seems like a fact to me at this point🥴😂 I’m going to give up on her books. I also totally agree that it’s annoying she ends her books on cliffhangers, because I most definitely do NOT want to read the sequel, so now I’m just left hanging🙄
Anyway, thank you! I hope so too💙

Marci Great review! Omg Matthew Daddario is such a good comparison - I totally see it!!😍 I enjoyed Ella’s temptations series for the most part (with hits and misses within the series) but even enjoying the series I completely agree about the writing. Was this ur first book from Ella? I haven’t read this duet yet

message 10: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Marci — Hahah thanks; I thought it was a pretty good comparison too, I really saw some resemblance between the two!😉
But no, this was not my first Ella Frank book. I have actually given her lots of chances. I’ve tried the first book in the Tempation series, the Prime Time series, the Fallen Angel series and this one. Neither of those books have ever enticed me to want to read a sequel because they all bored me to death😩 The only series of hers I would consider continuing is the Fallen Angel series, since that one really wasn’t all that bad, although it did had far too much sex in my opinion. Anyway, long story short.. this author just is not for me I think😬😂

There’s wayyyy too much sex so much of the time. It gets old fast! I totally get where ur coming from. I’ve never read a book from her or her writing buddy Brooke Blaine and been like this was the right amount of sex😂😂 I always wanted more romantic moments. The exception is book one in temptations tho. Love that one lol

message 12: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Marci — Exactly! Each time I read a book of hers I’m just desperately hoping for more romantic moments, and they hardly ever come. It feels like such a tease, and I always end up disappointed lol

Mica ♡Hopeless Deviant♤ I think this is why I haven't really been looking forward to her books lately. It does get boring after a while😭 especially when the conflict isn't even conflicting. The excitement just wanes because I'm just left wondering what the point even was😭

Rin (semi-hiatus) I liked this author’s older stuff (who knows if I still would now) but over the past couple years her books have gotten intolerable. Like… they’re cliche and tropey and empty.

message 15: by ❁Ila (new)

❁Ila ☽20 pages to the wind☾ Ahaha we love when grumps are being simps for their sunshine😌 and he is super cute! I can totally see some Matthew in there😍 I enjoyed some of her older stuff but I always have to wonder why she stretches them into series or duets😭 they'd be much more enjoyable if the events are packed into one instead of so much sex in one book!! I think it would be so much better and add a little more depth😭

message 16: by Iman (new)

Iman oof once people on tiktok were raging about this book but haven't had the braveness to actually read it. i'm removing it now. great points, Imme! just what i needed 💋

message 17: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Mica — Oh yes, totally! Her books are just really boring and the conflict is hardly ever satisfying, if there is even any conflict at all🥴 I completely understand why you no longer feel excited to read her books! I am kind of done with them as well😬

message 18: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Rin — I’m not sure if I even like her older books, but I definitely believe you in that her books have gotten more empty over the years! It seems to happen with quite a few authors who’ve written so many books in the same genre🫤

message 19: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Ila — hahah yup, we definitely do love grumps simping for sunshine characters😍 It’s soo cute haha. And I agree that all her books would be a lot better if she skipped all the sex and made her duets or trilogies into one book🥴

message 20: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Iman — Oh really? I didn’t know this was a popular book on tiktok. Oh well, I’m at least glad to have been of help in removing it from your TBR hahah

Shile (Hazard's Version) on-hiatus I feel like Ella stopped trying. Her books are all Temptation series. Read Temptation and you have read them all. Sorry this was a miss Imme. 💕 Fab review.

message 22: by Imme (new) - rated it 2 stars

Imme van Gorp @Shile — Yea, you’re probably right. I definitely have no intention of reading more of hers; I feel like I’ve given her books enough chances by now🥴 But thank you😘
