it was amazing
bookshelves: absolutely-loved, classics, fantasy, great-worldbuilding, must-read

I remember when I first read this book, it blew my mind. This was the first time I discovered humorous fantasy (that was before I fell in love with Terry Pratchett and the Discworld). It's a fun ride, but it's also smart and heartfelt and I loved every moment I spent in this book.

I feel like the series goes downhill after a while, like it looses its soul, but this book will always be 5 stars for me.

York Yeah, I feel the same... i think i got to book 10 or 11 until it petered out for me...and i got older...
but was surprised a few years back about how much hate there is for Pies Anthony...I'm an older guy and maybe I can't feel the emotions that many women...and men have expressed about his writing...it just seems that the level of vitriol can be a bit much...But, you are right, when I was younger and read "Spell" for the first time it was magical and I was smitten!

Elena Linville I also read it back like 20 years ago, but I think I bailed around book 5 or 6. As I have mentioned, the series had lost its magic. And I wasn't even aware of any hate or controversy towards the author.
