really liked it
bookshelves: graphic-novels, hoopla, read-in-2023, fantasy, magic-stuff

Still rocking that metal bikini.

description

Starts off with a bang as Sonja befriends a unicorn. <--is she actually getting a unicorn?!
Short answer, no.
But it's still a cool story.

description

The rest of the issues are all loosely connected as she roams from one adventure to another, this time with a new admirer in tow. I do appreciate how some good-looking guy always shows up to be her sidekick for a quest or two before she inevitably has to rescue them by the end of the story arc.
And then (despite his sad eyes) she leaves him to continue on as a lone wolf.
Very nice, Mr. Thomas.
I see what you did there, sir.

description

So far, I have no real complaints and could honestly recommend this to anyone looking for a sword & sorcery comic. The issues hold up surprisingly well, even if they would probably be considered a little hokey by today's standards. But if you'd like to see where Red Sonja got her comic book start, this is still quite a lot of fun to read.

From what I can find, I believe this contains Red Sonja #8-14, but don't hold me to that.
Recommended.

Anne I liked Simone's stuff but I've never finished it.

Is that one of them there “double entendres”? 🤔 I never get those. ☹️

The best part of your review for me?

Your shelving.

“magic-stuff” 😂

Do I dare look at that shelf?

If only you knew someone that had the Dynamite Red Sonja stuff on ComiXology. If only…

I think the Marvel stuff will keep you busy and satisfy that magic-stuff itch.

Kay Dee (what is your storygraph name? mine is in my bio. join me!) Meadows heh heh
red sonja and conan remind me of my childhood. i used to sneak and read my dad's comic's. i wanted a metal bikini.

Who didn't want a metal bikini?! She looks so tough in it, too. No idea how, but it's true.

You can look! There's nothing (much) hinky on that shelf. Mostly just wizard-y witchy stories. <--I think

I may peek…

I’m more towards “swords” than “sorcery”…

The app is ok.

The shopping experience is still horrible (compared to what it was), but improving.

The app is “Kindle-lite”. So, if you are comfortable with Kindle, you’ll be fine.

If you have a large library, when you first log into the app, the app will take some time to sort everything. (Part of why the Kindle architecture is not suited to periodicals…especially comics…in my opinion.)

The “reader” part of the app is fine (though it tends to truncate the bottom of two page spreads when viewed in landscape).

Amazon bought ComiXology around 2013, but those of us who were there before Amazon were allowed to keep our original ComiXology accounts.

Last year, Amazon forced everyone to switch over to Amazon accounts and completely broke the shopping experience and largely ruined the ability to organise comic collections with the app.

I don’t care much who gets the money, but…if it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it.

Ebony "Interstellar Introvert" I'm ashamed to say I never knew this was a comic. Red Sonja and Conan the Barbarian were like the best movies growing up as a kid (telling my age). I may have to read these!

And the comics are based on books. <--I didn't know that until I started reading these!
