I did it !! Godness.

I really was super intrigued by the title and the synopsis alone. A rom-com on the Villain team? A mystery? Sunshine × Grumpy romance? Count me in!!

I have, however learnt now to judge a book more by its cover than by its synopsis, I feel like, which is a bummer. Cause like, I feel like I should've known. :(

If you asked me tomorrow what happens in this book, I wouldn't be able tell you a thing. The actually important scenes felt like they were broken up by the main chacacters randomly noticing "how attractive X is when they do Y" etc, and I lost focus every time and probably missed a lot of lore elements or plot foreshadowings. Oops.

Right after the prologue (where Evie already is absolutely *thirsting* for The Villain) there is a 5-month time skip that essentially skips any chance for a slow burn this book tries to tell you it is. And then nothing happens for 300 pages. At the end I'm still unsure if we ever moved past the prologue at all. Nothing has changed. NOTHING. 😭 (the biggest irony of this is that the entire thing also ends on a cliffhanger to build up for the sequel lol)

I hadn't looked up the tiktoks this story was based on either before reading, but after I saw a couple of them I feel like I understand why the book is like it is lol. It reads like a bunch of those half-awkward instagram 1D imagines loosely stringed together to a 330 page book. Basically fanfiction for the Villain×Assistant tiktok series so I bet her fans over there are loving this one. Going in blind, it's not that great lol.

If you're looking for a "Gru × His Daughters"- kind of wholesome villain × civilian realtionship building (IN THEIR CASE, FAMILY, OF COURSE), look somewhere else! 😅

Also please for the love of god let this guy have a name ?? 😭😭 I don't think I can make it through another book where the character is only referred to as their TITLE 😭💀"

9.94% "So apparently this book is basically an extension of an ongoing skit/"series" on tiktok by the author about "what it'd be like if I worked as the villain's assistant", hence the lack of name for the villain and the silly scenarios. Definitely worth to consider/look up before going into this bcs it doesn't really work on its own if you go in blind... ://"

Also, the way the villain's POV is written reminds me of 'The Way of the Househusband' with the ridiculous levels of simping he's up to LOL."

if I have to read more than one (1) chapter of her sulking over the villain not trusting her when she gave him absolutely zero context I will ✨️ s c r e a m ✨️"

Are you going somewhere? Probably.
Is it any different from where you started? Maybe a little bit.

And then, as you try to focus on the end goal, trying to keep track of the luggage and everything, hands keep smacking you in the face and you lose focus again.

I'm sad."
