Odin Snow wasn’t a good person. He was the devil incarnate and if Hunter wasn’t careful, he’d get trapped in his inferno, forced to burn forever.

this was really hard for me to rate because i don't normally read Sci-Fi and let's be honest, i am here for the romance. but thankfully, the plot outside the romance was enthralling. i stayed up till 2am to finish this, till the point where my eyes were burning because i needed to see how everything was going to play out. the world was so intriguing, there is mafia, people who have powers, there are Whisper and Shouts (which you'll find out more about when you read 😉 it was like the author's own twist on ABO dynamics kind of), betrayal, revenge, and in all of that there is a romance.

“I want to consume all of you,” Odin said silkily, dropping his hands to Hunter’s thighs for purchase as he stroked back into him. “Own all of you.”

if the plot wasn't as strong as it was, i probably would have rated this lower. because the romance? i don't know if i can really call it that i guess? there was romance here, don't get me wrong, it's obviously very unconventional (which i don't mind because i love dark romance and these tropes) but this really only felt like a set up to the real thing (well hopefully). it was very slow burn and little things happened here and there which i loved but it wasn't quite enough to win me over fully. but i expected that since this is the first book of three. however, this book was a great start and i can't wait to see how Odin and Hunter's relationship develops more. i loved the possessiveness in this, to be honest i was hoping it was going to be more intense than it was. but again, there are more books to come.

now the villain, Isa. i hated him. which means he was a good villain right? 😂 i wasn't sure if i was going to like how everything played out with him being a previous lover and stepbrother of Odin, but i liked how it turned out and the reveals we got along the way were soooo good.

“You’re mine, Huntsman. To do with as I wish. To take,” another thrust forward, “and to touch,” he placed his hand under Hunter’s chin and tipped his face up so that their eyes met once more, “however, and whenever, I please.”

and the spice? there is only 2 scenes but the ones we got were hot and totally worth it. this is also kind of a second chance romance if you squint. Hunter was a bodyguard for the mafia 10 years ago before everything went to shit and he had a crush on Odin. my absolute favorite thing about this book was seeing how Odin slowly realized how he actually had feelings for Hunter as well all those years ago even though he had an arrangement with Isa. and that Isa couldn't quite give Odin what he wanted. but Hunter could. 🥺

So if you like:
🖤 dark romance
🖤 captor/captive
🖤 world building
🖤 lots of revenge and betrayal
🖤 touch him and die
🖤 slow burn
🖤 mafia
🖤 enemies to lovers

you'll love this. definitely check trigger warnings. now onto book two and i'm hoping it delivers.🤞

L Ann Sounds interesting. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on book two. Hopefully the romance picks up... and based on those very sexy quotes I have no doubt it will. Great review, hope!

len ❀ wow a captor/captive romance with a relationship that hasn’t fully developed within the first book? i’m shocked. i wanna say i’m curious but i’m worried i’d get my hopes up too much. glad you enjoyed it though! hopefully book 2 wins you over more! 🖤

it's definitely not fully developed! there is a lot i feel has to happen before they actually get together. but things are definitely brewing though haha. thanks so much elena, i'm praying book 2 wins me over!!! 🖤

Imme van Gorp Okay I’m honestly so confused about whether or not I would like this🤣 It’s definitely promising to hear that it has a good plot outside of the romance, but for you to say it’s not really a romance at all makes me wary again🥴 The tropes and the vibes you put up on your list are freaking delicious though, and they once again have me hella excited! But then you say their relationship isn’t as intense as you would have liked and I’m kinda uncertain again… So yea, IDK💀🤣🤣

i was definitely expecting more from the romance but i wasn't mad about it because it was a good start where i could see the romance having the potential to be really good!! if you read it, you will see why it's hard for the romance to really get going because they are enemies, and there's this whole revenge plot and one MC is captured by the other....🤣 so it makes sense how everything went down the way it did i guess? now i'm just hoping the romance delivers in the second book because it will totally make the first book worth it!

lila ⋆ i actually didn't like it bc of the way the romance was developed, it felt kind of... empty to me, and odd? also bc i couldn't really connect with the characters LOL and the plot was too monotonous for me. 😂 but i'm so glad you enjoyed! love the review 🤍 hopefully book 2 delivers for you <3

Christine I just read “A Bright Celestial Sea” by this author last night and liked it (sci fi mystery MM romance), curious to check out all these MM sci fi romances in the same universe.

i wasn't the biggest fan of the romance development either, but i was light with my rating because i was hoping it would really grab me in the second book. the plot was very interesting for me, i think that may be because i'm not used to reading stuff like this so it was intriguing to me 😂 sorry it didn't work for you!! and thanks! ❤️ i know you commented on my review for book 2 right after this so yeah it didn't deliver sadly LMAO 💀

oh! i'm glad you liked it! i'm not sure if this author is for me since after reading the second book in this series lol. but i still may try Echo when it comes out! i'm not sure if they are in the same universe or not🤔 but that would be interesting.
