I am an Australian children's writer of fiction and nonfiction, including picture books, information books, poems, articles and short stories. Some of my books have been recognised for awards, including the Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children's Literature and Whitley Awards.
A former zoologist and zookeeper, I most often write about animals and nature-related topics. I hope to encourage a love of reading, learning and nature in my readers.
I live in Melbourne, Australia with my husband, daughter and big, black dog, Banjo.

In gentle rhyming verse, two children travel through the ocean layers; down, down to the murky depths, before hitching a ride on a whale back to the surface, ending on the beach. Gorgeous illustrations of lots of different sea animals by patients at ...more

A great read aloud storytime book for the youngest children. Bright colours and simple rhyming phrases will entertain little ones. It's not nonfiction - rather, it's a simple story venturing into Seussian whimsy and imagination. Essentially, a fish g ...more

With the rhythm, rhyme and repetition we expect from the Hairy Maclary series, this one is lighter on story but still fun and cute. I love the other characters making appearances in the background.
