Growing up in Western Australia, Leonie was an avid reader from an early age. Her mother vividly recalls her stating “I can read faster with my eyes than you can with your mouth, Mum…” at around the age of six. Her parents and great aunt encouraged her interest in literature, providing her with books of many different genres, and . She began writing during high school, placing in the Western Australian Young Writers Award in 1980, and she fondly remembers several of her English teachers, who encouraged her to write, both fiction and poetry.

Leonie trained at Curtin University as a physiotherapist and moved to the remote north west of Western Australia, as a new graduate, in late 1986. She continued to write poetry for herself and for friends

Electoral Mishaps, and Other Stuff

On the fourteenth of September, NSW communities will go to the polls to elect our local shire councillors. These people will be the elected officials who work for the good (hopefully) of their local communities. They form ‘Local Government.’ Like all elections in Australia, the elections will be overseen by the Australian Electoral Commission, an independent body which oversees all Australian elec

C.S. Lewis
“And as He spoke, He no longer looked to them like a lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful that I cannot write them. And for us this the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read: which goes on for ever: in which every chapter is better than the one before.”
C.S. Lewis, The Last Battle

Leigh Brackett
“Space opera, as every reader doubtless knows, is a pejorative term often applied to a story that has an element of adventure. Over the decades, brilliant and talented new writers appear, receiving great acclaim, and each and every one of them can be expected to write at least one article stating flatly that the day of space opera is over and done, thank goodness, and that henceforth these crude tales of interplanetary nonsense will be replaced by whatever type of story that writer happens to favor — closet dramas, psychological dramas, sex dramas, etc., but by God important dramas, containing nothing but Big Thinks. Ten years late, the writer in question may or may not still be around, but the space opera can be found right where it always was, sturdily driving its dark trade in heroes.”
Leigh Brackett, The Best of Planet Stories 1

Graeme Rodaughan
“The man who walks in the shadow of vengeance is a different man from the man who walks in the light of justice.”
Graeme Rodaughan, A Subtle Agency

Leonie Hi Adrian! Thanks for watching along :) I have considered it, but am not sure if I'd have the technical skills to put it into the right format.

Adrian Deans Hi Leonie, I watched your Dark Days launch with interest. Have you thought about creating the files for an audio book yourself? I thought you read your passage very well - in an Australian voice.

I've bought all the gear to create my own audio books but my house is so noisy so it's a bit of a pain.

I'll get around to it.

Damn these notification settings, I didn't even know you replied and was going to message you again!

And yes, that's exactly the one. We are commencing the whole finalization process, which means I've cut down on what stories we'll need before we can publish it. However, we are still looking for someone to do the Anomalies story, which is the one you expressed interest in, as I recall.
