All my life I've been moved by the struggle against oppression. This was partly the result of my parent's decision to escape from the tyrannical Islamic Republic of Iran in the early 1980's. Ever since, I have done my best to fight on behalf of innocent people subjected to violence. An opportunity after 9/11 allowed me to contribute to the fight against those responsible for the senseless killing of civilians.

After working for the Department of Defense and the CIA, I was inspired to write a series of espionage novels about Janusz Soltani, whose Polish mother and Iranian father immigrated to the United States to escape oppr

Writing fiction is a process of refinement, you write a scene, and then you rewrite it, and then you rewrite it again..... Therefore the key is to start writing and worry about getting what you want during revisions. (less)

You create a world that has certain rules and must make sense. You create characters with certain traits and everything they do has consequences. In a way, being a fiction writer is like being God of a world. You create a world that begins to take on its own dynamic with each chapter, and it is this ability to create something that takes on a life of its own that is so fulfilling. (less)

The Enemy Within

America has not been this divided since the Civil War. Wherever one looks, citizens of the world's most powerful democracy are upset with each other and with their local, state and federal government. Meanwhile, scores of people around the globe watch to see what happens next. How will a government by the people and for the people react to the socioeconomic problems that have shaken the republic t Read more of this blog post »

George Orwell
“Power is power over human beings, above all over the mind. Power over matter, external reality as you would call it, is not important. We control matter because we control the mind, Reality is inside the skull.”
George Orwell

Ray Bradbury
“When did it all start, you ask, this job of ours (to burn book). There was no dictum, no declaration, no censorship. Technology, mass exploitation, and minority pressure carried the trick, thank God. Ask yourself what do people want in this country above all? People want to be happy isn't that right? That's all we live for, isn't it? For pleasure, for titillation?”
Ray Bradbury

Aldous Huxley
“Universal happiness keeps the wheels steadily turning; truth and beauty can't. Whenever the masses seized political power, then it was happiness rather than truth or beauty that mattered. Happiness has got to be paid for. It hasn't been very good for truth of course. But it's been very good for happiness.”
Aldous Huxley

Ernest Hemingway
“How did you go bankrupt?"
Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”
Ernest Hemingway, The Sun Also Rises

Max Weber
“The salvation sought by the intellectual is always based on inner need, and hence it is at once more remote from life, more theoretical and more systematic than salvation from external distress, the quest for which is the characteristic of non-privileged classes . The intellectual seeks in various ways to endow his life with a pervasive meaning, and thus to find unity with himself, with his fellow men, and with the cosmos. As a consequence, there is a growing demand that the world and the total pattern of life be subject to an order that is significant and meaningful”
Max Weber
