I like to set myself some personal challenges within my overall reading challenge for the year - based on my various reading lists.

I've been making a respectable dent in the Locus Fantasy list recently, so I'm going to try and keep that going. The first goal is to get it under 5 books by the end of the year (currently at 12).

I've also just launched my CC list - so my second goal is to finish at least one series from that list.

For my FtS list, the third goal is pretty simple - to re-activate (and finish) one of the series that I've put on hold.

My fourth goal is to get started on my Nebula list - get it under 15 books (currently 18).

My fifth (and final) goal is try and add one more author to my Pantheon list - to do that I need to have under 5 authors 'open' in there (currently 6).

That's a good spread of personal goals to keep me hopping for the next twelve months :-)

Quick update on personal challenges...

I've only ticked one more book off the LF list - so that's down to 11 at the moment. I've just started the Riddle Master trilogy, so that will knock-off another three, and I've already got Wolfe's Soldier on my shelf at home - so together that gets us down to 7. If I start on the Laundry File books - there are 4 of them - then I'll have passed my milestone after the first 2...

For the CC goal, I had picked the Parasol Protectorate to read first - because I already own the first two books - but now I can't find the first one... which is annoying.. hopefully it will turn up and I've not lent it to someone...

For the FtS list, I'm going to reactivate Morgan's fantasy series.

For Pantheon, I'm looking to clear Butcher and Hamilton back down.

Progress update as we approach the final quarter of the year.
On overall volume I'm on-track (1 ahead of schedule).
On personal goals...

1. - The Locus Fantasy list has less than 5 books outstanding, even after adding the 2017 winner - so this challenge is complete! (yay!)

2. I've made no progress on the CC list yet - so need to read three books there.

3. I reactivated A Land Fit for Heroes and read it on holiday (it was awesome), so I've completed my FTS challenge (yay!)

4. I've started the Nebula list, but only read 1 book, but the 2017 winner was already covered on the Locus Fantasy list - so the Nebula list won't get any longer at least! 2 books more needed there.

5. On the Pantheon list, I've gotten up to date with Jim Butcher's releases - but I need to clear one more author before I can add a new one. Probably Hamilton or Fforde, so 2 or 3 more books needed here.

So 7 or 8 specific books needed to clear all my personal challenges for the year. I've got 3 on the go already, which will take me to 40 - so I've got about 12 books left to squeeze in those 7 or 8 - eek, not much wiggle room!

For the CC list, I've chosen to start with the Inheritance trilogy, for the Pantheon list... I'm going to chose Fforde's Dragonslayer trilogy, and for the Nebula... I'm going to do Slow River and Annihilation. Easy!

2. I only read 1 of 3 books in the Inheritance trilogy, so I did not finish the CC challenge so that one will roll-over into 2018.
