People on the internet have definitely said

that I look like the human embodiment of the smell of BO.

So, looking forward to you smelling me

and realizing that's not the case,

but I do understand where you're coming from.

Hello GQ, I'm Lewis Capaldi and these are my essentials.

I have a very bad phobia of smelling bad,

so what I do is, I carry this around with me.

And this has got, it's really only

the two essential things in it.

I use dry shampoo everyday.

I have a roll-on deodorant 'cause I think

it stays on better

and I have this aftershave that has ran out

that I bought in an airport.

It's a Hugo Boss, but I don't really know

much about aftershave, I just know,

does this stop me from smelling like a dead cat?

Yes, use it.

So these are my sunglasses, I take sunglasses

wherever I go, for some reason

people really enjoy bringing me glasses

and throwing sunglasses at me on stage,

to the point where now we travel

with a suitcase full of glasses,

'cause people just keep giving them and giving them.

These were given to me by

someone threw these on stage.

But it's weird now, people...

It gets like,

I'm going to play gigs and it gets the biggest reception

if someone throws on a pair of glasses

and they land and I pick them up

and me going to put them on and when

I put them on, the place fucking erupts.

This is a notepad that I bring with me.

It's important for me to be able to

express myself through various, I mean,

lyrics is good for, it's my job,

I write lyrics all the time, so as you can see,

we've got a lot of stuff in here,

these are some, this is some lyrics here.

This is lyrics, this is just lyrics.

Oh fuck, my writing is...

Horrendous.

This is just a steam inhaler that I put my lips round

and I suck on this before every single show.

It looks a bit like a bong.

So people get suspicious.

And then this is made of porcelain.

You get them online.

Dr Nelson's improved inhaler.

If this is the improved version,

I would hate to have seen the fuckin', the original look.

Put your fucking mouth around, gee it a suck.

This is my mobile phone and it is an iPhone.

It's the new, it's X, it's one of the Xs.

And I use it for texting people

and phoning people, ooh, I've got

a fucking great app on my phone!

It's just farts, various farts.

[fart noises]

I'm never gonna have a girlfriend ever again.

[hip hop music]

This is my wallet, this is a wallet from,

a lovely, I like this brand, they're called Acne Studios.

I got all my essentials in here,

I got, this is a Greggs high roller card.

This fucking thing right here

gets me free fucking pastries.

And you can get lots of things,

you can get sandwiches, it's like a fucking,

it's like a party for your mouth.

I've got other things in here.

Just things that I like to look at every now and then.

Shawn.

Mendes.

And I just go, I sometimes look at it and go

♪ I wanna follow where she goes ♪

♪ I think about her and she knows it ♪

[Interviewer] Have you ever met Shawn?

Nah, nah, and I don't imagine I will after this.

So next up, we have my headphones.

These particular headphones are Bose headphones,

they are noise cancelers.

I've been listening to a lot of the Beatles recently.

They're this young new band from Liverpool,

you're gonna really love them.

As well as, I've been listening to Donna Missal

and Sam Fender as well, he's a British guy

who, we were both nominated for Brits

Critics' Choice Award at the Brit awards

and he fucking won it, so, I don't harbor

any ill will towards him and I don't

think about it every waking moment.

I'm not bitter about it at all.

Speaking of music, I take guitars with me,

I need them everywhere for my job.

Anytime I can, I try and pick up a guitar and write stuff.

I first got up on stage and sang when I was four.

And I loved it and to this day,

it's the most fun I've had pre-puberty.

So I was into bands like Queen

and I was into bands like,

I started finding, my brother was into bands like Slipknot

and my sister was into Green Day and stuff like that

and I just found that no matter

what the music sounded like,

everyone I listened to seemed to play guitar.

And I thought, right, so if I want to be on stage

and sing in front of people,

I'm gonna have to pick up a guitar.

Beyond that, songwriting became quite

a similar thing, I thought, well,

all these people I like write songs,

so I'm gonna have to write songs if I want to play live.

So next up is just my laptop.

I use it all the time, I love it so much.

My laptop, my album cover as my background.

So that's my album cover [dinging]

and this is my album.

Everyone tells you making an album

is the most, is so transformative

and you're gonna love it and it's like,

oh, it was such a, I really found myself.

It was very stressful and very boring making this album.

And I'm not saying that the music

is either stressful or boring,

I love the songs on it but making an album

is a fucking slog.

I love writing the songs and I love arranging them

but recording for me just does my fucking head in.

So you have to keep all your essentials

in one place and what better way to do that

than with a lovely big suitcase.

So this is my suitcase and it's from

the lovely people at Rimowa,

now this is a case that I have had

for quite some time and I quite like,

basically it's got your usual bits,

it's got your locks at the front here,

no-one is getting in or out,

it's very much like my trousers.

No-one's getting in or out.

And it's all bumped and bruised.

But I kinda like it.

I always was the type of person to be like,

I'm not going to buy

a suitcase that's metal,

'cause you have to lift it around and stuff,

but my tour manager said to me,

you're always gonna use two things,

you're gonna wear pants every day

and you're gonna use your suitcase every day

and he swung me.

So now I wear lovely pants and I have a lovely suitcase.
