Deadpool Wolverine ending explained

*SPOILERS ALERT* Marvel Studios’ dry spell — post the mammoth box office success of Avengers: Endgame — is most likely to reach its endgame *all the pun intended* thanks to Deadpool & Wolverine. With Disney’s acquisition of Fox Studios, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are the two Marvel superheroes that MCU fans eagerly awaited to see on the big screen.

Deadpool 3 had been in the works for years, but the addition of Hugh Jackman’s beloved superhero to the mix seemed astonishing to most. Especially with the heartbreaking send-off we got in Logan. However, MCU’s unboxing of the multiverse more than enables Wolverine (multiple variants, that too!) to return, angrier than ever. I mean, can you blame him? Imagine having to save the world with the foul-mouthed, fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool by your side?!

Deadpool & Wolverine ending explained — Is Deadpool (along with Wolverine) able to save his timeline Earth-10005?

To catch you up to speed on Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool (alongside a very reluctant Wolverine) is on a mission to save his timeline Earth-10005, including all his loved ones, from extinction. Paradox (Matthew Macfayden), an evil TVA agent, is on a rampage to mercy kill Earth-10005 using a time ripper, but without permission from the higher-ups.

After an emotional exchange between Wolverine and Nova (Emma Corrin), a mutant and Charles Xavier’s twin sister, the latter uses Doctor Strange’s sling ring to open a portal for Deadpool and Wolverine to travel to Earth-10005. Wilson and Logan are immediately met with a formidable opposition: the Deadpool Corps, a rag-tag army of Deadpool variants from different timelines. A gory battle commences as the bickering bros fight off multiple Deadpools, including Lady Deadpool (Blake Lively, nope, not Taylor Swift!).

Deadpool’s ability to regenerate is almost a party pooper until Peter Wisdom (Rob Delaney) shows up and plays the cutesy negotiator. Elsewhere, Nova learns of Paradox’s betrayal and enters Earth-10005 to seek revenge on him by taking control of the Time Ripper and destroying all timelines.

With the clock ticking, Deadpool and Wolverine make it just in time to save the day. However, there’s a catch. The only way to stop Nova’s bloodcurdling revenge scheme is to use one’s body as a conductor and disrupt the power flow of the Time Ripper—a life to save multiple lives. Wade Wilson and Logan duke it out to become the ultimate martyr, Iron Man style, but eventually, they join hands and destroy the time ripper. P.S. Wolverine's iconic yellow gear being ripped to shreds to flaunt Hugh Jackman's ridiculously chiselled abs will leave you screaming Bloody Mary, but the good kind! As Deadpool and Wolverine save Earth-10005 from complete annihilation, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) swiftly arrests Paradox and his scheming members for disrupting the multiverse.

What happens to Wolverine (and Deadpool) at the end of Deadpool & Wolverine?

The Others — Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner) and Gambit (Channing Tatum) — who nobly helped Deadpool and Wolverine during their battle at the Void, are granted access to their respective timelines while Logan and Laura, aka X-23 (Dafne Keen) decide to stay back in Wilson’s timeline.

Wade Wilson reunites with his loved ones and brings Logan and Laura to a dinner party at his home. There, a now-retired Logan plays wingman to Wilson and steers him to a reconciliation with Vanessa Carlysle (Morena Baccarin). All is well on Earth-10005 until it's time to get out of retirement.

Is there a post-credits scene in Deadpool & Wolverine?

There is both a mid-credits scene and a post-credits scene in Deadpool & Wolverine. In a touching homage to non-Marvel Studios-produced Marvel movies like the beloved X-Men franchise, a montage of behind-the-scenes footage from these films was showcased as a mid-credits sequence to the melancholic tunes of Green Day’s Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).

As for the post-credits sequence, Deadpool breaks the fourth wall to prove that he’s innocent regarding Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch's — Yes, THE Chris Evans is back in the MCU — death — until he’s not! We then dial back to the day when Nova’s henchmen captured Deadpool, Wolverine and Storm. Storm goes on a curse-laden monologue rampage against Nova that would even make Deadpool go, “Holy sh*t!”

If you’re looking for a viable storyline in Deadpool & Wolverine, you’ve signed for the wrong movie. The third instalment of the Deadpool franchise is pure fan service. It’s a Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman show from start to finish, and if you’ve not kept up with MCU jargon, you’ll be lost in translation. For diehard MCU fans, like myself, who have been craving some nostalgia interlaced with Shawn Levy-tastic action, we have a winner in Deadpool & Wolverine. Star-studded cameos attached!
