We're proud of our The University of Queensland Medical School - Ochsner Program students! 🎉 For the first time, two current students and a recent grad showcased their research at the 122nd Annual National Medical Association conference in New York City. Students from the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School program were honored to be selected to present at the NMA, which had the theme "The Quest for Healthcare Transformation." Taylor Anderson, MD, a 2023 graduate and now a family medicine resident at Dartmouth in Concord, New Hampshire, shared his research on building a curriculum for diversity, equity and inclusion. Eric Kravetz, a fourth-year student, presented his study on the differences in discharge rates when patients leave against medical advice, with Dhara Patel, another fourth-year student, as a co-author. Yvens Laborde, MD, Ochsner's chief community medical officer, guided the students, aligning their projects with Ochsner's diversity and community outreach goals. "Congratulations to these students for being the first representatives from our UQ-Ochsner program to present their research at the NMA," said Dr. Laborde. "Their participation marks a significant milestone, showcasing their dedication and hard work. This opportunity provided them valuable experience that will enhance their academic and professional growth. We are proud of their achievements and the positive impact they have made on behalf of our program."

Leonardo Seoane M.D., F.A.C.P., has been named one of this year’s New and Notables by Biz New Orleans Magazine! 🏆 Recognized for his appointment as the founding dean of the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM), Dr. Seoane demonstrates leadership and dedication in advancing healthcare and education. Biz New Orleans magazine annually celebrates people who make extraordinary contributions to their communities. When it opens, XOCOM is set to be the only historically Black college and university (HBCU) medical school in the Gulf South. Through a longstanding partnership with Xavier University of Louisiana, this initiative represents a profound step forward in addressing healthcare disparities and fostering academic excellence. "The nation faces a significant shortage of physicians, in particular those who are underrepresented minorities,” said Dr. Seoane, a first-generation Hispanic immigrant. “Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine will address this crisis and unleash the power of diversity by increasing the number of Black and brown physicians in the United States." Join us in congratulating Dr. Seoane on this well-deserved recognition! 👏 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gbptguyB
