Have you ever wondered how airplanes fly? 🤔 We went over to our engine shop so that Nikki, one of our amazing Aircraft Maintenance Technicians, could teach us a little bit about how an airplane engine works. We hope you learned something new!

Meet John, a Flight Attendant who has been a cherished member of the Southwest Family for the last 6.5 years. A little over a year ago, he embarked on a heartfelt project, creating a "Book of Wisdom" to collect stories from fellow Flight Attendants and Customers during his journeys. His notebook is filled with tales of love, loss, wisdom, and advice from travelers all across the world. When we learned about John's inspiring notebook, we wanted to celebrate him by surprising one of his flights with journals for all the Passengers onboard. This way, they could begin collecting their own travel stories and continue spreading kindness and love wherever they went. How fitting we were able to surprise this flight on #NationalEncouragementDay! We hope this story inspires you to engage with those around you, gather stories, give encouragement, and spread joy.

We’re celebrating 10 years of Repurpose with Purpose, our award-winning global environmental sustainability initiative that upcycles aircraft seat leather! With the help of community partners across the globe, we have upcycled more than one million pounds of aircraft seat leather, fostering sustainable solutions with a transformative community impact. We recently had the privilege of welcoming students from Mollejones, a rural community in Turrialba, Costa Rica to the Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) for a behind-the-scenes look at our operation. Community members in Mollejones play a vital role in the Repurpose with Purpose Program by cleaning, deconstructing, and preparing Southwest aircraft seat leather thanks to a grant from our partner, CATIE (Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza). These students and their parents were treated with Southwest Hospitality as they toured the airport, visited with Southwest Employees, and viewed the Repurpose with Purpose exhibit at SJO featuring Mollejones' contributions to the program. The finale -- and highlight -- of the tour was boarding and exploring an aircraft - which was a first for all! It was a day we will not soon forget. ❤️💙💛

Meet Annaston, a spirited 6-year-old who has been a Southwest fan ever since her grandmother, Janene (AKA "Mawmaw") began her journey with us five years ago. Janene started her Southwest career as a Customer Service Agent in Austin, dedicating four years to ensuring our Passengers had a smooth journey. Now, as a Flight Attendant for the past year, she continues to provide friendly service and safe travels for our Customers. Annaston dreams of one day joining her Mawmaw in the skies by becoming a Flight Attendant or perhaps a Pilot. On a recent trip from Ontario to Texas, Annaston joined Mawmaw onboard and assisted with handing out snacks to Passengers while wearing a matching outfit her grandma handcrafted for her. We are proud to be part of their story and to support the dreams of young aviators like Annaston! #SouthwestHeart

Reducing emissions on the ground is a key focus for us. We’re making progress on our goal to electrify 50% of our eligible ground support equipment systemwide, including baggage tugs, belt-loaders, and pushbacks by 2030. As of December 31, 2023, we have electrified 37% of this equipment across our network. These grandparents put the grand in GRAND gesture 🥰 When Flight Attendants Cynthia and Raymond found out that their granddaughter Camila was going to take her first flight they were able to switch their schedules around, along with their daughter and Camila's auntie Aubriana, to be there for this momentous occasion. Not only were they able to be there, but they were able to keep it a surprise from Camila's parents! They reported back that Camila was a natural and that they're looking forward to sharing many more memories in the sky with her!
