August 1 is Emancipation Day, marking the abolition of 250 years of enslavement in 1834 throughout the British Empire. This day represents an ongoing reminder that our history should not be forgotten as Black communities continue to experience repercussions of enslavement to this day. We recognize this day as a moment of celebration of the progress we have made but also as a call to action for the work we must continue to do to bring justice to Black communities across Canada through the art and artists we have the honour to showcase onstage and offstage. 📸 Photo by Scott Norsworthy

"Multiplicity of language is most interesting when it's used to progress these stories - to ratchet up tension, to encase or reveal secrets, to create emotional resonance, to reflect or deflect identity." - Brandon Yu, New York Times In the NYT article, Found in Translation: Asian Languages Onscreen, Brandon Yu explores the rise of Asian and Asian American narratives and with that, the use of subtitles in film and television, including Netflix's hit series "Squid Game." Experience how the use of multiple languages creates an elevated one-of-a-kind experience through this season's Salesman in China. Similar to subtitles in film and television, our play uses surtitles to translate when Mandarin is spoken on stage. Opens Aug 23!
