Developing local talent through our in-house academies!
Since 2021, we have been running our in-house academies in Niš, Serbia, which targets the local talent by encouraging them to enroll in one of the education programs tailored by Better Collective.
Having our own, specially designed training delivered in the form of the SEO (search engine optimization), SEM (search engine marketing), WordPress, fullstack, and Quality Assurance-Academies not only contribute to developing local talent – for us it is a key long-term investment that ensures we can continue to hire best-in-class colleagues.
In 2023, we enrolled a total of 73 participants across 14 academies and we are proud about the fact that 75% of the enrolled candidates are today a part of Better Collective.

So as we come to the end of Module 4, where we’ve talked about WordPress and taxonomy strategic generosity and all that good stuff.
What I want to do now is just really talk about how you leverage both your foundation content and your Tribe Originated Content. There are two types of visitors to a website.
You've got drive-by traffic, and you've got traffic that stops the car, gets out, kicks the tires, and then says, I like this and I want some of this. I want to get to know you better, I'm prepared to communicate with you. So I'm going to give you my email address.
What's your value, build your Tribe, and engage your Tribe over time, by having an opportunity to communicate and correspond with them, quite apart from the value delivered value content proposition, answering questions, solving problems, and helping jobs to get done.
So the way that I've articulated that this way is we've got our foundation content. And as we've seen with other Tribe Originated Content, which is ultimately our content platform. Then what we did was, we recognized that people need to access all of this material in an organized fashion, to make it easy for them to use the material.
So we identify the kind of jobs that need to get done. Then we packaged all of the content here in such a way that it becomes immediately accessible to people so that they can solve the problem that brought them to the website in the first place. And when you build your content over time, it becomes so voluminous, you can overwhelm your visitors because they know that this stuff is really good, and it's there to be had.
But how do they actually make sense of it all in terms of their own use that they have for it, the need that they have to be able to convert, the knowledge? It's enunciated in your concept platform into something that's immediately accessible and allows them to work the material to help them achieve their objectives.
So as it happens in the Hong Kong Visa Center, the foundation content is the Hong Kong Visa Handbook. And the Handbook doesn't require any email address or any formal connection with using the website to be able to get all the value designed into the Hong Kong Visa Handbook. It's logically ordered in such a way that everything they could possibly need in order to do Hong Kong visa application by themselves without paying any professional help is there for them.
But there are other elements to being able to use that material that we've been able to design putting together certain kits. So we have, for example, the Do-It-Yourself Visa Kit.
The Do-It-Yourself Visa Kit is a separate free-of-charge web product that you get where we've organized all the relevant resources from the foundation content. The Tribe Originated Content and wrapped them up into a Do-It-Yourself Visa Kit with everything you could possibly need.

The only Multilingual and International SEO mistake worse than WPML is running WordPress Multisite.
Unless your site is tiny, and you expect it to stay that way, I never recommend it.
I still use a subdirectory method, but I run dedicated WordPress installations for each version of the site.
Depicted below a basic version of the Nginx config file that creates this structure.
Why don't I like WordPress Multisite for International SEO?
Plenty of reasons, but these are the top:
- Database bloat. Separate databases make queries more efficient at scale, maintaining responsiveness and reducing PHP load
- Isolation between installations + redundancy is better for security
- Separate admin makes it easier to keep track of hreflangs and canonicals
- Custom cron job scheduling accommodates site-specific needs and time zone considerations
- Independent scaling, backup, and update processes
- Troubleshooting and maintenance is simplified, with issues addressable on a per-site basis
👉 For anyone who doesn't like my take on WPML, I'm sorry. I've never seen a setup that worked properly and didn't create other issues.
Also, there's no substitute for human translators IMO.

If you ask on forums how to learn technical SEO, most people will reply with variations of these:
- Learn coding
- Just set up your website and practice
And I think it’s bad advice that doesn’t really help YOU become great at technical SEO.
Instead, it just triggers more imposter syndrome.
What coding language should you start with?
How can it immediately help you become better at technical SEO?
How can you learn from your small website so that you can help much more complex sites?
If you’re ready to trade your imposter syndrome for a technical SEO superpower, I have something for you:
