I'm back at my desk after a week in Madrid with the Board of the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) One of the fun questions we chatted about over a meal was what each of us prefers to do when we have a couple of days to explore a new city. Some people buy a "city pass" and see all the main touristy sites. Some find the hop on/hop off bus. Others wander the streets and get happily lost. Some find bookstores or libraries. (I find yarn stores, but that's a confession for another day). I also love to do foodie walking tours or cooking classes and watch a local sporting event. (We got to see Real Madrid play Atletico -- iykyk...) What do you love to do first in a new city? One thread that showed up for me was learning -- which got me thinking about why people bother to join professional associations, as that was my main reason for being in Madrid in the first place. Being part of the IAF does advance my learning, and it's an area we hope to double down on this year. It also builds professional community and professional credibility. This is our city! We are starting this revolution because as stakeholders, whather Ibadan gets defined as, has direct impact on us, our businesses and our lifestyle. For this reason, the 6th edition of the Ibadan Business Festival @ibadanbusinessfestival is taking a different format! While we are still very much invested in seeing the growth and development of small and medium scale businesses in the city, we are now more committed to Repositioning Ibadan, which is a wider peoject and with the help of God and all stakeholders, success therein will give a larger impact on the growth and development of businesses in Ibadan. In other words, we are tackling the root cause...the business environment! If the land is good, the plants will sprout abd thrive. There are various ways you can contribute to the success of this event: 1. Register to showcase your business: if you have a good and standard business that can confidently compete in any business environment, this is the place to showcase it, especially to represent Ibadan! 2. Help spread the news: of what use is a light that is hidden? We know this vision is solid and will make a good impact in the city, but it will be a hard feat to achieve if the word does not spread as widely as it should. Help us post some of these content. Post across your social media plafforms, post on stories, on walls, on your profile grids, in different groups you belong to. This definitely is one solid way of depicting yourself as a stakeholder in the city, and aligning with this just cause. 3. Speak positively about Ibadan: often, people speak only of their negative experiences about a place, a business or someone else. Whenever this place, business or someone else does something positive however, the human mind forgets to talk about it. Ibadan may be a not-too-positive environment (for now), but it can't be all bad. Whatever positives you see or have achieved in the city, spread it as equally much as you would spread the bad experiences 4. Join our movement: you can join our association which is primarily bonded by a common goal of business ownership and quest for success. 5.
