🏎 You've been handed the keys to the car! As the hiring manager, you can screen, interview, and review the hundreds of "qualified applicants" who have applied for your Director of #Sales position. Don't forget; you are also required to complete the daily routine tasks your position demands. Now what? It's kind of a no-brainer, but even though you have those keys to the car, do you necessarily know how to drive it home? In the spirit of the start of the Formula 1 season, here are some issues you are likely to face as the Team Principal on your hiring project: 1. Does your "job description" provide a winning strategy and target the best talent? Think of this stage as R&D. You must know who and what your competitors are in the space, and does your brand attract the best drivers? 2. Maintenance: An area where most hiring teams fall short. The amount of communication and consistent rapport building required to keep talent engaged and excited about the car they're stepping into is half the battle. No candidate will stick around with a team that does not invest daily in their hiring process. 3. The offer: So, you've managed to put all your money, time, and effort into the car and have left no room for error. You get the car on the track, make an offer, and get hit with a counteroffer or rejected offer. You haven't left any room for error, and you need to go back to the R&D stage again. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. The list can go on and on with the high touch, fast pace, and likely some challenging moments when hiring a critical piece or asset to your team. Anyone with a valid driver’s license and DOT medical card can do that. The 𝚙̲𝚞̲𝚛̲𝚙̲𝚘̲𝚜̲𝚎̲ is to provide an exceptional experience for your customer. The professional driver that calls ahead, has a smile, builds a relationship with your customer, and follows the delivery requirements (what entrance to use, what dock to park at, where to check in, etc.) truly understands the 𝚙̲𝚞̲𝚛̲𝚙̲𝚘̲𝚜̲𝚎̲ of their role.
