Candid Transfusion Talks - Episode 4🩸🩸Need for Understanding Regulatory Standards With License renewals, Audits, Total Qality Management and Inspections season, the learnings and realisations in this duration as a Blood Centre Incharge, are so - Adhering to regulatory standards, particularly those set forth by esteemed agencies like the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and AABB (Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies), International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), ISTM, and in India also CDSCO FDA India MoHFW, NACO, NBTC, SBTC etc. additional recommendations is not just a bureaucratic necessity for blood centers; but also the ethical responsibility and it's a fundamental pillar of ensuring public safety and the efficacy of blood products. Let's delve deeper into why this adherence is so crucial: 1. Ensuring Safety and Efficacy: At its core, regulatory compliance is about safeguarding the health and well-being of both blood donors and recipients. The stringent guidelines are designed to minimize the risk of transmitting infectious diseases and to ensure that blood products are effective in treating patients. This includes rigorous screening of donors, proper testing of donated blood, and meticulous handling and storage procedures. 2. Maintaining Accreditation: Accreditation demonstrates that a blood center meets or exceeds established quality and safety standards, providing assurance to healthcare providers and the public alike. 3. Preserving Public Trust: Blood donation is an act of altruism, rooted in the belief that one's contribution can make a difference in saving lives. However, this willingness to donate relies heavily on trust. Individuals need to have confidence that the blood they donate will be handled responsibly and that the blood products administered to them or their loved ones are safe and effective. 4. Mitigating Legal and Reputational Risks: Non-compliance with regulatory standards can have serious consequences, including legal penalties, fines, and irreparable harm to an organization's standing within the community. Thus, compliance is not just about meeting minimum requirements; it's about mitigating risks and upholding the integrity of the blood banking system. 5. Continuous Improvement: Regulatory standards are not static; they evolve in response to advancements in technology, changes in healthcare practices, and emerging threats to public health. This helps adapt to new challenges, and better serve the needs of patients and donors. In summary, adherence to regulatory standards is not merely a box to check off on a compliance checklist; it is the cornerstone of a blood center's commitment to safety, quality, and public trust. #thebloodblog #transfusiontalks #candidmedicaltalks #bloodtalks #donatesafeblood #transfusionmedicine #fda #aabb #istm #isbti #regulatorystandards #quality #medicine #ISBTClinical #ISBTYoungBlood #AABBPics Follow, share and subscribe for more such engaging talks.

🩸In this educational video, we explore the compatibility between different blood groups and how they can impact blood transfusions. Understanding blood compatibility is crucial in medical situations where blood needs to be transferred from one person to another. 🩸 🩸Our blood is classified into different groups based on specific markers present on the surface of red blood cells. The two most important markers are ABO and Rh factors. Blood groups are categorized as A, B, AB, or O, and Rh positive (+) or Rh negative (-).🩸 🩸To ensure a successful transfusion, it's important to match the recipient's blood group with a compatible donor. For example, individuals with blood group A can receive blood from donors with blood groups A or O. Similarly, individuals with blood group B can receive blood from donors with blood groups B or O.🩸 🩸However, there are certain general rules to remember: - Blood group O is considered the universal donor as O- blood can be transfused to people with any blood group. - AB+ is considered the universal recipient as they can receive blood from any blood group.🩸 #bodyandmind #blooddonation #bloodtransfusion #bloodtoknow #commonknowledge

Good read. This highlights the importance of variant detection in A1c testing, and the high quality of Capillarys resolution in separation technology.
Walking by the AACC Poster area I had the chance to meet and chat with Dr Erving T. Laryea (from Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN), who has done an excellent work comparing HbA1c run on SEBIA Capillarys 3 with others HPLC platforms. His study, performed with Hemoglobin samples with and without variants has, demonstrated once again the high quality of HbA1c run on Capi 3, even compared to HPLC based technology and in accordance with NGSP recommendations. Thanks Dr Erving T. Laryea for performing this study and allowing me to share it with the community.

Thrilled to share the final publication from my PhD! 🚀 In this study, we present the first diagnostic test for the early detection of patients at risk of experiencing a relapsing course in MOGAD. These findings have the potential to impact clinical management, reducing relapse rates and mitigating disability in this complex autoimmune disease. Check out the full paper here:

NMD Pharma is in Orlando, Florida, US for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinical & Scientific Conference where we presented two posters on the progression of our pipeline of drugs. Held annually, the #MDAConference showcases the latest groundbreaking research and clinical accomplishments by dedicated professionals working in the “Era of Treatment” for neuromuscular diseases. This year’s conference is especially focused on how the field is undergoing changes in response to the approval of new therapies. We want everyone with neuromuscular diseases to live better and more independent lives and we are proud to be making meaningful contributions to the field, through our first-in-class CIC-1 inhibitors, targeting severe neuromuscular disorders such as spinal muscular atrophy (#SMA) and myasthenia gravis (#MG). We’re connecting with our fellow industry leaders at the conference and listening to many fascinating talks on how our industry is rapidly progressing. Please do reach out if you are also attending the conference, we would love to further discuss our work in addressing the unmet clinical need for neuromuscular diseases.
