Ahead of this weekend's college football bowl games, check out #nfl veteran and #financialwellness advocate, Carl Nassib's Fortune op-ed on why college athletes earning money through #NIL deals need financial education, and the role universities, collectives, and collegiate sports teams must play. With the proper financial education, NIL earnings can be life-changing. Without it, a knowledge void threatens to leave young athletes worse off than where they started. That's why Financial Finesse, with Nassib as an expert contributor, created NIL Long Game, the first and only NIL and financial literacy certification program available to all college athletes at no cost. https://lnkd.in/gndetFs5

#tip 07: Here it is. The post I have been most nervous to share...because it feels like insider trading when you work in higher ed. When it comes to researching the cost of college, sticker shock isn't even shock—it's paralysis. It's a game-stopping, plan-abandoning, dream-crushing barrier. Worst of all? It's almost entirely perceived. Don't get me wrong—college IS expensive. But what you see is NOT necessarily what you pay. The national average discount is about 57% off posted tuition and fees. --> College financial aid is a negotiation. --> All caps for those in the back: COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID IS A NEGOTIATION. If you buy a car from a dealership, you would never pay the sticker price in the window. You'd let them throw out the first number, and then the game is on. This nonconventional college tip is for prospective students and families to approach award packages the same way—with diplomacy and negotiation. Every parent has their own philosophy on higher education and how it will be funded. I will never forget when Brett Danko said, "Education Planning is called, FAFSA", during my CFP exam prep. (Side note: He is the GOAT for exam prep) He was obviously kidding... to a certain degree. His point was, clients should not sacrifice nor delay their long-term savings needs to fund their child's college expenses. Everyone can have their own opinion here, but he is right from a mathematical standpoint. The longer you delay saving/investing for your long-term needs the more you will have to save or depend on market performance to get you there. How will you/would you fund your child's higher education needs? #Educationplaning #SunpointeInvestments
