Why are there so few B Corps in East Anglia? It's a challenging certification process for sure but it is so important that we all scrutinise and refine our operations to achieve maximum positive and minimum negative impact, and the B Corp framework ensures we're on track and able to continue contributing towards the UK's Net Zero target. If you aren't a B Corp already, please consider starting your journey now and let's take pride in East Anglia performing to the level of other regions
What does being a B Corp UK certified business mean to us? This #BCorpMonth, our Managing Director, Zoë Scorer, shares her thoughts on this and how we can move forward, together on the journey to better business. Looking in unexpected places for solutions to society's most pressing challenges. Building teams and working with organizations to break through the noise and get real results.
The details of #valuebasedcare can get complicated fast...but I had the opportunity at the 2024 RISE Value Based Conference in Atlanta to take a step back and talk about the big picture. Here were some of the hits: -YES, moving to value based contracts is hard. But let's stop pretending that the Fee-for-Service rat race is easy. That does no one any good. -IF you think that value based care and contracting is a flash in the pan, wake up and smell the roses. Between 18% and 40% of all payments across business lines are in HCP-LAN APM categories 3b-4 (meaning includes downside risk)--and it's only accelerating. -Clear visibility into your population (attribution, quality, cost, engagement, risk, etc.) is PARAMOUNT for entering into value based contracts. Never get into an arrangement you don't understand or can't explain to your grandmother--it means you don't understand it. The marketplace for great solutions to understand, model, and manage your value based contracts is booming (see Syntax Health); start with paper and pencil and scale with technology. Value based care is a train that is leaving the station--as an organization, you need to decide, have you (1) planned your journey? selected your destination? compared the ticket prices and train schedules? packed your bags? or are you (2) jumping on the nearest train that's pulling out of the station and hoping for the best. Thanks Katila Farley, RN, CMOM for pulling out these threads and for being such a vocal proponent for the move to value in health care. It was so great to be in such great company!
During the RISE VBC event, I attended a talk with Juliette Price. Juliette Comments on the blended model: VBC and FFS. Using the analogy of an often referenced VBC issue of "One foot on the canoe, one foot on the dock. " She Continues to explain, "The on-ramp to value is not minimized. It’s complicated. The fee for service isn’t easy either. The first question I ask clients is Send me your contracts, which on average takes 30-45 days if they can even find them." She continues to discuss that best practices are emerging. She emphasizes the need for "Clear visibility around negotiation. The marketplace is booming." and to "Find people who are philosophically aligned with you to get yourself where you're going. It’s not free, and it’s not easy. If you don’t like change, you are going to like irrelevance even less. " Thank you, Juliette, for such wisdom and inspiration in the world of primary care.

Scottish Chambers of Commerce Leaders call for Political Consensus for Economic Growth At a national business event in Glasgow, the leaders of Scottish Chambers of Commerce will call for a political consensus for economic growth as the country prepares for a UK General Election. Stephen Leckie, President of Scottish Chambers of Commerce will urge politicians to focus on competitiveness, internationalisation, and sustainability to capture future economic growth. Addressing a national audience of Scottish business leaders, Stephen Leckie, President of Scottish Chambers of Commerce will say: “Our economy is at a crossroads. There are clear decisions that must be made – many in the hands of our respective political leaders. What I say to them is that the direction you take, will determine the fate of our people, our economy, and businesses for generations to come. As we approach a General Election next year, regardless of which direction the political wind is blowing, we need our politicians to reach a consensus on economic growth. Political will is essential to take the first step and the Chamber Network is here to work with you to create growth and opportunities.” On Competitiveness, Stephen Leckie will say: “I’d call on all Governments to avoid policy decisions which create unintended consequences against the business community. I’d ask our leaders to stop taxing and disincentivising business growth and entrepreneurship. That’s why we need a long-term tax strategy and a clear policy agenda - laser-focused on business confidence and investment.” Dr Liz Cameron CBE, Director & Chief Executive, Scottish Chambers of Commerce, will say: “Let’s be clear we are not out of crisis yet. That is why we need decision makers to support us by designing policies which promote a new economic narrative which enables growth. What we do not need are blockages and barriers which recently have resulted in painful and expensive consequences for business.”
The Scottish Chambers of Commerce, Chief Executive, Dr Liz Cameron CBE rounds off our speeches for the evening sharing: "It takes courage and sacrifice to start and remain in business. It takes grit to start up, and determination and resilience to keep going. Keep innovating, keep dreaming and keep doing." #SCCBusinessAddress23
