Healthcare Quality Executive dedicated to improving the healthcare systems and outcomes for individuals and communities.
Louder for the people in the back: 30-50% of healthcare spending is QUALITY ASSOCIATED WASTE. i.e inappropriate care, avoidable diagnoses and outcomes, variation in processes/care, and efficiency. As a Quality Manager, I cannot say often enough that variation equals risk. If we fix our processes, we lower healthcare risk- to provider, patients, payors, communities. Start with training- everyone. #qualitymanagement #cphq #healthcarequality #systemsthinking #processimprovement #waste #nurses #behavioralhealth

Hospitals and health systems are economic engines in our communities, generating $38.7 billion for Connecticut in 2022. They serve as one of the state's largest employers, participate in groundbreaking research trials to develop new therapies, and provide low- and no-cost health education and wellness programming. This #NationalHospitalWeek, learn about some of the many hospital investments in CHA's “Economic Impact Report," one of three annual publications. The reports highlight hospitals' critical contributions and examine the key challenges facing them. Read the Economic Impact Report: https://lnkd.in/et6UiViY

A common observation led Terri Jowers and Guillermo Wippold, Ph.D., to join forces: Only about a quarter of the people who attend health screenings or health promotion events are men. Their interest in improving engagement by men, and particularly men of color, led them to apply for funding from SCTR and establish a new method of providing health education. https://ow.ly/20RX50Q7EG9

A health creation agenda for higher education - mainstreaming education in population health and SDGs. Please note: my views may not reflect the opinions of my current employer.
The link below gives some excellent examples of how Cheshire and Merseyside Public Health Collaborative #CHAMPS have delivered innovative #publichealth over the last 20 years. David Buck states that any serious approach to population health needs to maximise the health and care system, but how do we develop a #workforce to address #healthinequalities and achieve these long-needed public health outcomes? To achieve coherence, break down silos and tackle the problems the #NHS is facing should we be developing a #healthcare workforce grounded in #populationhealth with a deeper understanding of place and the #widerdeterminants, as opposed to health professionals who are focussed on clinical treatment, illness and acute care? What do you think? How do we deliver meaningful public health education to undergraduates who came into healthcare to treat illness? If these questions interest you join our PerCIE network
Event roundup – celebrating 20 years of collaboration in Cheshire and Merseyside

Project Manager, Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Health; Author of "Health Care of a Thousand Slights" (Winter 2020)
Grateful to have heard from some great minds - Eboné Carrington, Gbenga Ogedegbe, MD, MPH, FACP, and Thomas D'Aunno -- at NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service's annual #KovnerBehrman Forum. It was great to see one of my favorite professors in action alongside one of my best friends from grad school Dennis Grishin. Some key insights: 🏥 While referring the most vulnerable patients to other agencies for #SDOH needs has value, the trusting #patientprovider relationship is key. ⚖ Health systems have to strike a balance between relying on #communitybasedorganizations and providing these services themselves, which may cause #missiondrift. 💲 Quote from Dr. Ogedegbe: "Evidence-based medicine is only as good as the resources we invest in them." 🤝 Investing in training #communityhealthworkers will be critical as we rely on them to not just strengthen relationships between the community and the health system, but also shift non-clinical tasks away from providers. 👍 Quote from moderator Lauren A Taylor: "What we decide is possible or not possible determines our managerial prescriptions."
