I came upon this insightful WSJ article on Friday, and thought I would share. Many employees are not taking full advantage of the benefits offered by their employers. The significant investment employers are making in employees is undervalued by employees because they do not know the impact of the benefits offered, or simply how to take advantage of what is available. This may be due to a lack of understanding or simply not taking the time to review and enroll in these programs. With open enrollment season upon us, it is important for employees to take the time to understand and utilize the full-scope of their benefits, so that employers can maximize the value delivered to their employees and their families. For example, contributing to a 401(k) plan can lead to significant savings, as employers often match contributions. Additionally, tax-advantaged accounts for medical spending, such as flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs), can provide tax savings and help cover medical expenses. Other underused benefits include student loan and tuition assistance, supplemental insurance, wellness programs, employee assistance programs, backup care, and discount programs. By taking advantage of these benefits, employees can improve their financial well-being and overall quality of life. So what is the answer?
