Our human family is growing. The world’s population is projected to peak in the mid-2080s, increasing from 8.2 billion people in 2024 to approximately 10.3 billion before it begins to decline. A new report from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs also highlights that by the late 2070s people aged 65 and older will outnumber children. Thursday is the first-ever International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica. The Srebrenica massacre marked one of the darkest chapters of the war that followed the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. Over 8,000 lives were lost, thousands of people were displaced and families and communities were devastated. “May the memory of Srebrenica strengthen our resolve to build a world free from the scourge of genocide —a world where justice and peace prevail, where ‘never again’ is a solemn promise fulfilled for all humanity,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. https://lnkd.in/eQdYwhqQ
