People will be prowling Julia Street during White Linen Night in New Orleans, coming up on Aug. 3.

COMMUNITY

WHITE LINEN NIGHT: A free evening with more than 20 downtown New Orleans gallery openings and a street party with live music and food for purchase, Aug. 3 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Most events are concentrated along Julia Street, but also including Magazine and Camp streets. The Contemporary Arts Center and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art will open with new exhibits. The block party will be held between the 300-600 blocks of Julia Street. 

A STORYTELLING SHOW ABOUT STORIES: Local creatives share their community’s stories and how those may have changed them in some way on July 25, 7:30-9 p.m., at Big Couch, Suite 101 at 1045 Desire St. in New Orleans. Tickets start at $8. bigcouchnola.com. 

DIVE INTO DISCOVERY: Pontchartrain Conservancy will host a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) expo at the New Canal Lighthouse, 8001 Lakeshore Drive in New Orleans, July 25-28. The event will feature activities each day for all ages. Daily activities, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., include driving ROVs and tactile coding to circuitry and underwater cameras. Grade 6-12 activities, 2-3:30 p.m., include buoyancy, programming and hydraulics. Registration required. Admission for daily activities is $10 and includes access to the New Canal Lighthouse Museum. “COLOSSUS: THE FORBIN PROJECT”: The 1970 sci-fi thriller is a cautionary tale about a super computer created to control U.S. defense systems. SAFE SITTER CLASSES: The Junior League of New Orleans will host 10 Safe Sitter classes throughout the summer to teach children in grades 5-8 how to safely stay home alone, help care for younger siblings and prepare for babysitting opportunities.
