Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park Policies

 

Drones / Unmanned Aircraft Policy
Launching, landing, or operating an unmanned aircraft from or on lands and waters administered by the National Park Service within the boundaries of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park is prohibited except as approved in writing by the superintendent.

 

Superintendent's Compendium
The Superintendent's Compendium of Designations, Closures, Permit Requirements and other Restrictions Imposed Under Discretionary Authority are regulations specific to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. These regulatory provisions apply in addition to the requirements contained in Title 36, Code of Federal Regulations ("36 CFR")

Air Quality

Hazardous volcanic gasses can present a danger to sensitive groups of people. Frequently check the air quality during your visit.

Parking lots can be full by 10 am. Find out where and when you stand a better chance of finding an available parking space.

 


COVID-19 Safety

Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park follows Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance in the county or all the counties where the park is located to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Visitors are urged to recreate responsibly by planning their visit in advance and acting with care.

The CDC has offered guidance to help people recreating in parks and open spaces prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
