The American Red Cross helps meet the constant demand for blood by providing about 40% of the nation’s blood supply — more than any other blood bank in the U.S. Our Minnesota and Dakotas Region plays a vital role in this work, distributing lifesaving blood locally while also sending blood to other parts of the country where there are critical needs.
As the nation’s leader in blood collection, we see a growing need for blood. In order to support our aging demographic, provide relief for an increasing number of cancer patients, and ensure type-specific match availability for a diversifying population, we must increase our capacity to collect blood.
The American Red Cross is committed to meeting this challenge, and is opening 100 new blood donation centers across the country, including one in Blaine, MN.
After more than a year-long battle, London Hamilton is cancer free with the help of 65 blood, platelet and plasma transfusions made possible by generous volunteer donors. From a single child fighting cancer in need of lifesaving platelets to an entire community in need of blood due to a crisis, people facing medical emergencies rely on the Red Cross for safe, readily available blood.
"I am so excited for this opportunity to expand our community presence here in the Twin Cities! Minnesota is a critical part of the national blood network at the Red Cross and our new Blaine Blood Donation Center will build on our work to ensure that our neighbors, friends and loved ones receive lifesaving blood and blood products when they need it. Knowing that in one hour you could save a life at our new blood donation center is amazing!”
