Canadian actor-writer-producer Daniel Levy parlayed his initial screen fame as a host for MTV Canada into a successful second career as creator and co-star of the offbeat Canadian sitcom "Schitt's Creek" (CBC, 2015- ). Born Daniel Joseph Levy on August 9, 1983 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Canadian comedy icon Eugene Levy of "SCTV" (Global/CBC/NBC/Superchannel/Cinemax, 1976-1984) fame and writer Deborah Divine. Though he studied theater and improvisational comedy during his school years, Levy's big break came as an on-air host for MTV Canada's "MTV Live" (2006-2012) and "The After Show," an umbrella title for talk show-styled programming after several of MTV's reality series like "The Hills" (MTV, 2006-2010). His popularity on those programs translated to hosting duties for CTV's coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, but Levy's true interest lay in acting, and after "MTV Live" ran its course, he began pursuing a career in that field through appearances on the long-running Canadian series "Degrassi: The Next Generation" (CTV/MuchMusic/MTV Canada, 2001-2015) and in independent features. In 2013, he teamed with his father and uncle, Fred Levy, to form a production company, called Not a Real Company Productions, which created and produced a comedy pilot for CBC. The show, about a wealthy and obnoxious family who rebound from financial ruin by funding the development of a rural town, became "Schitt's Creek," with Eugene and Dan Levy playing the family patriarch and his sexually ambiguous son, respectively, and Eugene's former "SCTV" co-star, Catherine O'Hara, as his wife. The series netted numerous awards and nominations from Canadian critical groups, with Dan Levy winning the Canadian Screen Award for Best Writing in a Comedy Series or Program and sharing Best Comedy Series with his father and uncle, both in 2016. The following year, he was announced as the co-host of "The Great Canadian Baking Show" (CBC, 2017- ).
