ALSO UHH I DON'T KNOW i guess i gather up references and inspirations that i think have a similar vibe to the character I'm making and cobble together something that makes sense.

i have a hard time forcing traits onto my characters so i kind of let them work themselves out after a certain point (imagine them in a Situation and whatever comes naturally usually sticks)

as for middle grade... I've thought about it but I'm not sure the things i like to write about would be ok for middle grade books. i would love to write something like Stand By Me, Super Dark Times, Summer of 84, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Florida Project etc... i keep getting told by agents/publishers they're only interested in light fluffy stuff rn which i don't personally have much interest in writing 😔🎻 my favorite younger/kids coming-of-age stories are sad/scary/both LOLL

maybe one day tho...

i'm writing this post to bring attention to ola's campaign. ola is a math graduate student whose entire life was upended after the iof bombed her home, leaving her and her family with nowhere to go. they're still in north gaza, still enduring the famine and the bombing, still trying their best to live to see another day.

it's so hard to reconcile the fact that many gazans went from being normal students to now dedicating their whole being just to surviving. i cannot imagine the pain ola is going through - for her family, for her home, for her passion. it's not fair that we get to live and go on while they have to die and pause their lives indefinitely. please donate any amount you can. please share.

i actually want to add that i feel like a lot of you are becoming incredibly comfortable with associating pain and suffering with arab identity, so this is a reminder that you shouldn't ignore these fundraiser posts simply because you think having your entire career ripped from your hands, having your home bombed and being rendered homeless, and living in perpetual starvation is just something that people in third world countries do. this is a reminder that they too deserve secure, happy lives where they get to pursue their passions and see their loved ones and live to see palestine's liberation. you cannot defer to western conditioning and grow desensitized to arab suffering. please rediscover your humanity and help this family reach safety.
